BISHOP'S HOUR October 24, 2010
4:00 p.m.
Asbury Memorial UMC
Note from Bishop King:
"It is in my heart to be with the people of South Georgia; however, it is not possible for me to be in each local church. The Bishop's Hour is an opportunity for me to come close to the laity and clergy of each district, and for me to fulfill the teaching role that is intended to flow out of the office of Bishop. God has called me to teach about the various components of disciple formation, which is the church's chief purpose."
Save the Date
Emmaus members, please save the date, November 13th for the next "pio party" welcoming our newest Emmaus members from the walks in October. The party starts @ 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Bring a covered dish and your family. If you would be interested to help with the set up or decorations, please call
Jim Smith @ 598-0413.
Day on the Island Mission Outreach Funds
Applications for receiving funds from the proceeds from DOI, available in the church, must be received no later than 5 PM on Wednesday Nov. 3. Funding must be used for the following purely charitable purposes: relief of the aged, church-related youth activities, religious instruction or worship, or construction or repair of church buildings or facilities. Only applications that meet these criteria and contain all documentation will be considered. Applicants will be notified within six weeks of the deadline.
Our Church Flower Guild is holding another flower demonstration on Tues., Oct, 26th, 9:30 AM in the old youth building. We are so pleased to have a former member, Nancy Fuqua, to demonstrate for us. This is not only for our guild members but for anyone interested in becoming a member...and anyone interested in flower arranging! Please come and bring a friend.
Matra Jordan, Flower Guild Chair
Church Members,
As you may or may not know, October is National Pastor Appreciation Month. You can show your appreciation to our fine ministers in a variety of ways. Send them a note, bake them a cake, drop off a gift card to their favorite restaurant. These just a few ways we can let them know how special they are to us.
Don't let this month go by without telling our ministers how much they mean to you!
All Saints' Day On Sunday morning, October 31, 2010, we will observe All Saint's Day at each of our three worship services-the 8:45 AM and 11:15 AM Sanctuary and the 11:15 AM Anchor. A special floral bouquet will be arranged with flowers that are presented to family members during the service in remembrance of their loved ones. Listed are church members who have died in the past 12 months:
Harriett Barras
Young Allen Beall
Rosemary Sue Smith Caldwell
Robert Caldwell
Rosa Brown Carter
William Diffenderfer
David Benjamin Golson
John "Jack" Seldon Heery, Jr.
Renee Clavia Malanga
Sara Nettles
Dr. Julian Killen Quattlebaum, Jr.
William Henry "Chip" Woods, Jr.
Jack Haden Wynne
If you have a loved one who has died in the past 12 months that you would like to remember, you are welcome to bring a long-stemmed flower to the church with you. At a special time, you will be given the opportunity to place it with the other flowers. |

Music Ministries
Arts from the Island is now established as the new music and arts outreach ministry of Isle of Hope UMC! At our prayer meeting on October 3rd, a number of ideas were enthusiastically shared to enable our congregation to bless those in the community by serving and sharing the talents God gives us. Please let us know if you would like to be involved in this ministry, or of any ideas you might have. We especially encourage those who might provide leadership!
The Kids of the Kingdom 1 and 2 Choirs (1st-5th grades)
will sing the Introit at both traditional worship services this Sunday, Oct. 24th. The children should gather that morning at 8:30am in the 5th grade classroom. Parents with questions please call Jan Davenport at 355-6280.
We invite ALL in our congregation to sing with the Chancel Choir in an Advent Service of Special Music on December 12, including Mark Hayes' new cantata, Child of Hope. Rehearsals will begin Wednesday, November 3. We will follow the same Wednesday schedule throughout November, beginning at 7:00PM with the Advent music, then practicing weekly anthems from 8:00 to 9:00PM. See the Vogelsangs for more information.
On Sunday, November 7, at 6:00PM in the Berean Room, there will be a meeting for youth and their parents concerning next summer's Youth Choir Tour to Colorado Springs, followed at 6:20PM by a meeting about the ASP Mission Trip. Parents are invited to share dinner with the youth at 5:30PM.

For Youth & College
Isle of Hope United Methodist Church - This message is for you! We have an upcoming event for our high school students that I would love for everyone to be involved in! On Nov. 5th-6th, our youth will be taking part in an event entitled "Insomnia." The goal of this event is for our students to give up the opportunity of a good nights rest so that they can understand and appreciate all that God has blessed them with. We will also be raising money to provide beds for orphans in Uganda. Each student has been asked to raise $50. This event is for high school, but I would love if our whole church could come together and give towards this cause. And here's the best part - you do not have to give a large amount. You can contribute $1, $5, $10; however much you feel God is calling you to give. Donations will be accepted through Nov. 5th, so let's come together and give for a good cause!
