Dear , Grow! It's One of Our Core Values Last week I had a revelation. It seems that Cindy and I have taken a step back in time in regard to home décor. I'm not talking Retro or Early American- I'm talking "Kid's World." With the incredible blessing of 4 grandchildren now in our lives, we have become reacquainted with highchairs, booster seats, pack & plays, cribs and such. My revelation, however, didn't come from the new décor but from watching one of our grandsons at play. He was just doing what is expected of a one- year old baby - he was being a one- year old baby. Now here's my revelation. If twenty- five years from now he is doing the same thing in the same way that he was doing it that day, I would think something is radically wrong. Wouldn't you? I mean we all expect and want our children, or in this case grandchildren, to grow, to mature, to change. Growth is a vital and normal part of the maturation process. What is true in our physical lives should also be true in our spiritual lives. God expects and wants us to grow, to mature, to change. The goal in all of our growing is to become more like Christ. Unfortunately, as LeRoy Eims in his book, The Lost Art of Disciple Making points out, there are an awful lot of immature Christians in our world. He goes on to say, "What then is the problem today? ... Why are fruitful, dedicated, mature disciples so rare? The biggest reason is that all too often we have relied on programs or materials or some other thing to do the job. The ministry is to be carried on by people, not programs. It is to be carried out by someone and not by some thing. Disciples cannot be mass- produced. We cannot drop people into a 'program' and see disciples emerge at the end of the production line. It takes time to make disciples. It takes individual, personal attention. It takes hours of prayer for them. It takes patience and understanding to teach them how to get into the Word of God for themselves, how to feed and nourish their souls, and by the power of the Holy Spirit how to apply the word to their lives. And it takes being an example to them of all of the above."
Well there you go! That sounds exactly like the challenge our Mission Statement confronts us with when it calls us to Grow. As a Church, we recognize that a powerful, world influencing, fully mature disciple of Jesus Christ is not the by- product of random chance or a good program. We must be committed to the intentional ministry of disciple making. With God's help, we are going to be focusing our energy, time and prayers in this direction. I want to encourage you to pray about helping in this ministry. If you have been walking with Christ for some time now, pray about how you can become a part of our Church's commitment to help every member Grow into a powerful and mature disciple of Jesus Christ. I am excited about the possibilities!

The choirs will begin rehearsals next Wednesday, September 15, the day of our first Church Night Supper. Additional information can be found on the church website, or by calling Kevin Vogelsang at 355-8527. We have big plans for our youth choirs this year! The Sunday senior high youth schedule has been changed so that both the K.F.C. and H.O.P.E. Choirs will rehearse 6:00-7:00pm. We are also considering an extended choir tour (7 days) next summer to a more distant location than has been possible in recent years. More on that soon! Our Youth Choirs Kickoff is planned for Sunday, September 19, 5:30-7:00PM in the Fellowship Hall. There will be music, food, and fellowship, followed by praise and worship led by Jessica & Friends from Athens, GA.
