Dear , Life at the Core Exploring Our Core Values Love, Grow, Serve, Share At Isle of Hope UMC we are committed to helping everyone who enters our sphere of influence to basically "do four things!" Our commitment is to assist people to Love, Grow, Serve and Share. These are our core values. Our purpose is to excel in these four things and to equip others to excel in them as well. We believe that by excelling in these four values we can achieve our full potential as followers of Jesus Christ. Love: Jesus said when you zero in on the core of our existence, we are basically here to love God and love people. Loving God is strengthened through our vertical focus and devotion and loving people is strengthened through our horizontal focus and devotion. Our purpose as a Church is to help people excel in these two vital connections. Grow: Because we seek to connect with God and people we recognize the importance of learning and personal growth. We are committed to helping people discover and live into their God given potential, to grow in personal faith and Christ-like maturity. This involves growing in our understanding of who God is and who God enables us to become through Christ. Serve:Because we seek to connect with God and people we recognize the importance of following Christ's example by demonstrating God's love in practical ways. By serving all people both in the church and in the world, we are committed to using the gifts God has given us to make a difference (Mark 10:45). Share:Because we seek to connect with God and people we recognize the importanceof sharing our time, talents, resources and witness as expressions of our love for both. These are the fundamental core values we share as a Church family. Over the next four weeks we will focus on each one of them in our worship time together. We want to strengthen our understanding of what we believe and why we believe it. Why not invite a friend to attend one of our three Sunday morning worship services with you? This would be a great time to help someone else discover the joy and blessing of being part of the Isle of Hope United Methodist Church!
Living to Excel for Christ, Mike

MINISTER ON CALL
For Emergencies: Sept. 3-5 Rev. Ricker (912-659-4475) Day On the Island Alert
Please mark your calendars for Oct. 15 for Day on the Island, a special bi-annual event in the life of our church. Once again, we have beautiful homes for the tour, our hot chicken salad luncheon, silent auction, scrumptious Sugar & Spice shop, Friends N' Needles knitting shop & a new addition- a recycled Christmas shop, in addition to church items for sale and tours of the sanctuary. This traditional fundraiser for our church has always been a wonderful time for Christian fellowship. All funds raised will be used to support missions and other outreach ministries of our community and church. All of our UMW circles are currently hard at work on individual responsibilities but it takes many hands to have a successful DOI. If you are not already involved, we welcome your participation (men, too) and will find the perfect spot for you to help. ISA 58:10-11 "...If you spread yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed...The Lord will guide you always...you will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail." Please contact Joy Gainer (355-0869) or Linda Martin (355-3522) for further information.
Day on the Island Silent Auction:
The Circle of Love is currently seeking donated gifts for the Silent Auction taking place during our Day on the Island Event. We woud love offers of services or goods, vacation homes, dining opportunities, etc. Remember, you don't have to be a business owner to donate a gift certificate to a business! We will help you store items if necessary until the auction date. Celebrate the life of our church as we open our doors and raise money for missions. Many recipients are so thankful for the blessings offered through the hard work that occurs on that day! Be a large (but silent) part of this day! Contact Katherine Slagel 695-5200.
Sisters In Christ: Please join us Monday, Sept. 13th from 9:30am-11:00am. We will meet in the parlor for a devotion and we will discuss plans for the upcoming year. Then, we will head to the kitchen to begin preparing for the Sugar and Spice Shop for Day on the Island. We will make cheese straws and brittle bread. This is a lot of fun and a good time to get to know each other better. Please call Kim Kraft, 355-8527, if you need the nursery for your child. If you do not belong to a circle, we would love to have you join us. We are mostly mothers of children ages newborn-18. We meet the second Monday of every month.
Circle of Love: September 20th at 12 PM in the Wylly Dupon room. Come join our dynamic group of women of all ages. Please call Katherine Slagel 727-5144 if you need childcare or have any questions!
