Quarterly Budget Report

Dear Members and Friends of Isle of Hope UMC,
To the left you will find the Financial Report for our Church through the second quarter of 2010. The first column is actual receipts & expenses thru June 30th.  The second Column is what was budgeted for the same time period. In actual expenditures, we have spent $139,397 more than we have received year to date.
Your prayers and financial support for the mission of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church is vital. The summer is a very busy time for everyone. For your convenience, please remember that your financial support to the Church can be made by direct deposit using "Bill Pay", through your local bank.

The Finance Committee welcomes any questions you may have regarding any of this information.  Thank you again for your prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness for Christ through the ministries of our Church.

Dear ,

                                           Unshakable
                                      August  Sermon Series

Bernie Madoff. Tiger Woods. John Edwards. What do these folks have in common? They broke trust. The difference between them and thousands others is they were obviously high profile individuals and therefore when their sins found them out, so did we. Let me ask you a question. How much stock do you put in what someone else promises you? Now I realize it depends on the person's character, track record and for sure the nature of your relationship with them. Yet, even when we believe all those things are intact, most of us have still been disappointed a few times by the lack of follow through on some promises made. When that happens, our ability to trust is often shaken.
As we continue to move through our August series UNSHAKABLE, we will focus this week on this whole matter of trust. This Sunday we will look at the Unshakable Promises of God. In a world where so many people's word is not worth the paper it's printed on, it is important for us to examine the reliability of God's Word. As we approach God's Word, please keep in mind that the Lord may not always tell us what we want to hear, but He will always tell us the Truth.
I hope you will take time this weekend to gather with family and friends in one of our three Sunday morning worship services, 8:45 a.m. sanctuary, 11:15 a.m. sanctuary or 11:15 a.m. fellowship hall.  The intent of our time together in worship is to encounter the God who always makes good on His promises. See you Sunday.
Believing All Things are Possible,
Mike

MINISTER ON CALL
For Emergencies:  August 6-8
Rev. Mike Ricker (912) 659-4475

This year's biggest Mission initiative, Day On the Island, is quickly approaching on Friday, Oct 15.
Lunch Bunch is looking for "a few good women" and also men, to help host the homes for our House Tour.  If you are available and have a few hours that day please call Linda Nowlin, 598-2102 or Barbie Lientz, 355-6512 to sign up.  We really need your help. It is a very rewarding experience and lots of fun.  Please make a commitment as soon as possible so that we can finalize plans.

APPEAL FROM the BOARD OF TRUSTEES
As was reported earlier, we have spent $139,000 more than was received in contributions through the month of June.  That unfortunately has essentially depleted the "unrestricted" reserves we had for operating expenses.  So we are making every effort to reduce expenses wherever possible, which includes the costs of utilities such as electricity and natural gas.
The Board of Trustees continues its appeal to you to make the sacrifice of personal comfort by tolerating warmer buildings this summer.  The cooling temperature on thermostats in all buildings are being raised 1 or 2 degrees each week until we find a point of reasonable comfort.  Last Sunday the thermostats in the sanctuary were raised to 72 degrees from the usual 68 degrees; this week we are trying 74 degrees.  Please come dressed for warmer conditions.
Everyone is encouraged to turn off lights in unused spaces and keep doors between conditioned and unconditioned spaces closed as much as possible.  We appreciate the suggestion some of you have made to save money/energy, so please pass on to a Trustee or staff member any ideas you may have.
Thank you for understanding and for your help.
