Dear , 2010 GOD AND COUNTRY SUNDAY This year Independence Day, the Fourth of July, falls on a Sunday. While we know that our gathering each Sunday is to glorify God, I am glad that this Sunday we can express to the Lord, in the context of corporate worship, our sincere gratitude for the blessings we enjoy as citizens of this great nation. I agree with the statement by Adlai Stevenson, "When an American says that [he] loves [his] country, [he] means not only that [he] loves the New England hills, the prairies glistening in the sun, the wide and rising plains, the great mountains, and the sea. [He] means that [he] loves an inner air, an inner light in which freedom lives and in which [he] can draw the breath of self-respect." On this Fourth of July we will have a guest speaker who truly loves this country. We are honored to have Wanda Kay North to deliver the message for our 8:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. worship services. It was a great joy for me, as your new pastor, to discover that she is a member of the Isle of Hope family. What a blessing! Wanda Kay North is the daughter of Howard and Gladys North of Callahan, Florida and has been a member of IOHUMC since 1996. She graduated from college with an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Masters in Business Administration and a PhD in Health Administration. Wanda Kay is currently the Manager for The Center for Clinical Research at St. Joseph's/Candler Health System. She has served in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps for 23 years and is currently a Lt Colonel with the 628th Medical Group at Charleston Air Force Base, SC. As a Flight Nurse with the AF reserves, she has served on active duty in Panama Just Cause (1989) and Desert Storm (1991). She has also served on active duty as a clinical nurse in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2008), and is currently serving a 90-day tour at Charleston Air Force Base in support of Operation New Dawn. I want to extend an invitation to join us for one of our three worship services on July 4th. Together we will pause to glorify God and give thanks for a nation where freedom lives and where we can still draw the breath of self -respect. Celebrating Our Freedom, Mike

Music Ministry
As in recent years, this summer we invite everyone to dress casually for worship during the months of July and August - even in the sanctuary! We will enjoy more variety in our music, including times for hymn requests. Have you considered singing with the Chancel Choir? This would be a great opportunity to join us, and we would appreciate the extra voices during times of summer travel.
