Dear ,

                                    OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Can you recite the Mission Statement of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church? Can  the membership of our church, children, youth, and adults recite it?
Brian Smith is  the leader of Ministry Improvement Team Number One. That team  fashioned our Mission Statement and Brian presented a Logo to represent that statement to the Church Council on Monday April 26. The Council unanimously approved  the Logo as they had approved  the Mission Statement back in January. Brian in making the presentation, told of a conversation with his wife Allison as they looked at the new Logo. Their six year old daughter Ellie came into the room and asked, "what are you doing?" Brian said "we are looking at a new Logo for our church's Mission Statement. Ellie said, "Oh you mean 'LOVE, GROW, SERVE, AND SHARE"?
Ellie knows our church's Mission Statement! Do you? Our Mission Statement is an extension of the United Methodist Church's Mission statement, "Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world."  We do this with "Open hearts, Open minds, and Open doors. We make disciples by "Loving, Growing, Serving, and Sharing with them."
If our Mission Statement does not reflect who we are, it is of no value to us. It is not enough to learn the words of a statement if we do not live those words. Consider the mission statement which was hanging in the hallways of the oil industry giant Enron  when it went out of business because of corporate corruption: "Respect, Integrity, Communication, and Excellence." The leadership of Enron failed to meet any of the four parts of its mission statement.
Its not enough to say that we "LOVE God and others" if we do not practice that in the life of our congregation and in our individual lives. It is not enough to say that we "GROW in  relationship to Christ", if we  make no efforts in that direction. It is not enough to say that we "SHARE our time, talent, and resources" if we try to keep all those things for ourselves. It is not enough to say that we "SERVE as the hands of Christ" if all we do is serve ourselves.
So, how are we doing? You must answer that question for yourself. It seems that as a congregation we may be moving in the right direction, but there is always more to do. We have not yet arrived. The more we learn to LOVE, GROW, SERVE, AND SHARE like Jesus, the closer we will be to where God wants us to be.
That's our Mission, that's our vision, because it was first God's mission and vision for His people.

Heifer International Read to Feed
Once again this summer, we will offer students K-5th grade the opportunity to read to feed others. Starting May 23rd, students ask sponsors to pledge money for each book the student reads. At the end of the summer, students collect their donations which are sent to Heifer International. The donations purchase gifts of livestock to provide food and income for families living in poverty around the world. What a great opportunity to not only encourage your child to read but to share the love of Christ to the ends of the earth. Read to Feed packets will be available in Sunday school classes and on the table in the church hallway beginning May 23rd. We will have a program to recognize all participants at a Wednesday Night Supper in September. Check out www.Heifer.org  for more info.
