                                        JOURNEY TO THE CROSS

As you are reading this, the Season of Lent has begun with Ash Wednesday on February 17. During these weeks, leading up to and including Easter Sunday, we will be on a journey together as we explore the cross and resurrection on Jesus Christ. Listed below are the sermon themes which will be shared in both the Traditional Worship in the sanctuary and The Anchor Worship in the fellowship hall during each of these Sundays. Keep this information near your Bible in order to be able to prepare for each of these Sundays, knowing the themes and reading the scriptures listed.

GETTING CONNECTED CLASS

All new members and visitors are invited to the Getting Connected Class sessions. Sessions will include meeting our staff and some of our church leaders, sharing knowledge of the United Methodist Church and beliefs, and learning about the ministries, missions, and activities of the Isle of Hope congregation. There will be three sessions during Sunday School held in the Chancel Choir Room with one lunch in the Seekers Sunday School Room on the second Sunday (see schedule below):

Christian Women's Club is an international interdenominational non-membership organization that meets the 4th Wednesday of each month (except November & December).  The February meeting will be Wednesday, February 24th, at Carey Hilliard's Banquet Room, 11111 Abercorn Street Ext. from 12:00 - 1:30.  Celebrate our 40th birthday with Route vocal entertainers with music from the 40's till now.  The speaker will be Bob Foust from Gotha, Florida; he worked 20 years in management at Disney World, and asks, "Are you living in Fantasy Land?"  Men are invited to this luncheon.   Price of luncheon is $10.25; reservations are requested by Monday February 22nd.  Call Carol Falligant (598-0865) or Fall Quattlebaum (598-0081).  Email reservations to gendenfield@comcast.net.

The United Methodist Men will have its monthly breakfast on Tuesday, February 23rd. Our speaker will be Rev. Jim Rush who will give an entertaining presentation, "I once was lost but now am found."  All men of the church are invited; no reservations are necessary.

 

The South Georgia Advocate is a twice-monthly newspaper that covers local conference news, Sunday School lessons, and details about upcoming events. The Advocate is bundled with the United Methodist Reporter from Dallas, Texas, for national United Methodist news. 1-year subscription is $25 (for age 65+. $23). KFC UPDATE

We had a great Valentines Progressive Dinner, special thanks to our host homes The Morgan's, Parker's & Hibbert's. Next week meet at the Green House regular time 4:30PM - Miss Marjo will be the "Queen"!

Confirmation UPDATE

We had a great "Tour of Churches". Our confirmation class raised over $2,000.00 for Wesley Community Center! Next retreat is February 26th-27th to the "Explorations in Antiquity Center." We leave at noon!

 Starlight Pottery will be here this Sunday, February 21st to help us make something special for someone special. Bring $10.00 & your artistic flair to create a one of a kind masterpiece. ASP Skills Workshops are coming up! This is a reminder to all youth who are signed up to go on ASP (this includes all those on the waitlist!) that you must make 3 out of 5 skills workshops. You should have received a letter informing you of the dates, but here they are! Please also remember that you must bring with you the tools listed in the letter.

Music & Fine Arts

The Men's Chorus has begun another series of rehearsals, meeting Sunday evenings at 7:00PM.  We plan to sing in worship on March 14.  New singers are encouraged to participate!


The Chancel Choir has begun work on The Wonder of the Cross, an Easter cantata by Randy Vader and Jay Rouse.  We will continue to learn this music on Wednesdays during the first hour of our evening rehearsals, and will present it in worship on Palm Sunday, March 28.  There is still time for interested singers to participate.  See the Vogelsangs for more information.

 

Any 6th grader who studies an instrument privately is invited to play in worship on Confirmation Sunday, March 7.  Please contact Nancy Vogelsang at 351-9223 by Tuesday, March 6.
