Dear , ALL SAINTS' DAY We take time once a year to celebrate and to remember the saints who have gone before us. We are thankful for their earthly lives and for God's steadfast love that provides for their spirits. We recognize our need to grieve our loss and to rejoice in the promises of God. In the fourteenth chapter of the Gospel of John, Jesus says: Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; If it were not so, would I have told you That I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. (RSV John 14:1-3) When we celebrate All Saints' Day, we are expressing our belief that God takes care of us on earth and in heaven. When we gather in the church to sing, pray, and study, we are enjoying dwelling in the house of the Lord. We trust that God will provide a heavenly place for us as Jesus has described. As we worship, we look forward with hope to gather in heaven with God and dwell in a heavenly home. This Sunday, November 1, will be that time that we remember those of our congregation who have died in the last twelve months. In our sanctuary services at 8:45 and 11:15 and our Anchor worship service at 11:15, we will lift up the names of our members and relatives of members who have died. You are invited to bring a flower to place in the basket at the front at the appropriate time. The flowers will be taken and arranged into a special bouquet which will be brought back into the worship service. Our thanks to Shirley Grotheer (Worship Committee Chair) for helping prepare for these special services. Come and join us as we share the comfort and strength that God offers. Let us celebrate dwelling in God's house now and forever. Frank Parr |

Church Members, As you may or may not know, October is National Pastor Appreciation Month. You can show your appreciation to our fine ministers in a variety of ways. Send them a note, bake them a cake, drop off a gift card to their favorite restaurant are just a few ways we can let them know how special they are to us. Don't let this month go by without telling out ministers how much they mean to you! Come join the girls at Kathleen Kilbourne's retreat at Epworth By the Sea. Tuesday morning's session, November 3rd is "Waiting on God" and Wednesday morning's session, November 4th is "Responding to God". It costs $25 per session. Call Phyllis Curlee at 354-8964. UNITED METHODIST WOMEN'S FALL GENERAL MEETING Tuesday, November 17th 7p Bring your friends to get ready for the Holidays. CONSECRATION SUNDAY AND PRAYER VIGIL Sunday Nov. 8 is Consecration Sunday at IOHUMC. At each of the 3 Worship Services an opportunity will be available to turn in an "Estimate of Giving" Card. Cards for adults will be mailed to you the week before. On Nov. 8, cards for children and youth, and additional cards for adults will be available in each of the worship services. These estimates of our giving for 2010 will enable our Committee on Finance to build a Budget for our Church based on what we, in prayerful consideration, believe God wants us to do to support His ministries in the world. We, of course, want to support this effort with our prayers. In addition to our private prayer times, we believe that the members and friends of Isle of Hope UMC desire to come together to support a PRAYER VIGIL. You may come to the sanctuary of the Church or the prayer room in the Green House, on November 4th or November 5th between the hours of 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Sign up for a 30 minute time-slot (or longer) and spend time in prayer for our efforts to "Discover joy through simplicity and generosity".

Missions & Outreach
L.O.V.E. Mentors Return to IOH Elementary School Success in reading and life changing outcomes were provided by nearly 20 L.O.V.E. (local outreach volunteer educators) mentors from IOHUMC for under-achieving students from January until May 2009. Comments from teachers like: "went from failing grades to honor roll", "is not the same child he was before he met his mentor", "progressed from reading at a 3rd grade level to 5th grade and passed her CRCT with flying colors" prove that mentoring makes a difference. An increased enrollment of over 100 students and the addition of a 6th grade level present an opportunity for us to make an even bigger impact in the IOH community. Unlike many mission opportunities, your service as a L.O.V.E. mentor occurs on the day and at the time of your choosing between the hours of 9am and 3:30 pm. One half hour weekly of consistent one-on-one mentoring with an under-achieving reader using materials we provide and train you to use enriches you along with the student. To join our mentoring team or to ask questions call Betsy Hines 354-8957 or the church office. Ashlee Kraft Memorial Golf Tournament Many thanks to everyone who helped make the Ashlee Kraft Memorial Golf Tournament such a success. We raised over $6000 for youth mission trips! A special word of thanks to Paul Childers, Joe Brettschneider, Chris Trice and Trey Smith for their leadership. The proceeds from this event will enable many youth to follow in Ashlee's footsteps by serving others in the name of Jesus. Julie |

Music & Fine Arts
We invite ALL in our congregation to sing with the Chancel Choir in an Advent Service of Special Music on December 13. We have chosen the cantata Festival of Carols by Joseph Martin. Rehearsals will begin Wednesday, November 4. We will follow the same Wednesday schedule throughout November, beginning at 7:00PM with the Advent music, then practicing weekly anthems from 8:00 to 9:00PM. See the Vogelsangs for more information. The Chancel Choir NEEDS YOUR HELP We're always seeking new singers for the Chancel Choir. While many people will not answer the yearly open-call to join the choir, some will respond to a personal invitation (most of our current choir members were asked to join by another member). Have you heard someone singing in the congregation that you thought should be singing in the choir? We would love to ask them to join us! Just give us their name (Kevin or Nancy or any choir member), and we will reach out to them. It could be a blessing for all of us - the new singer, the choir, and the church congregation. Kevin & Nancy
