Dear ,
Shape To Serve ...O' God you are the Potter we are the clay... Isaiah 64:8 Several times in scripture, the Holy Spirit compares God's work in us to that of a Master Potter. Does this truth comfort you or make you squirm? Perhaps both? Us too! As we consider the ways we are "Shaped to Serve", consider that God is at work in your life in a personal way. Does God's touch pinch a bit as you are formed in a wide capacity for service? Are you stretched to serve in ways you've never tried before? Then take heart! You are becoming a work of Art! Our church family has an incredible opportunity to serve our community through our sister church, New Covenant UMC, formerly Epworth UMC. New Covenant is also being "shaped to serve" -refurbishing its building and programs to meet the needs of mid town Savannah. They have asked us to join them in this process. As part of Make a Difference Day we will help clean, paint, prune, build and sew at New Covenant. It will take many, hands, and we hope you will choose to be a part of it. We are also looking for people to commit to assist New Covenant for a longer period of time, as "Urban Missionaries" as they develop programs and worship that will draw people to the church. Watch for more information on this and other ways that we can be shaped by serving. How grateful we are for those who "shape us" and fill us so we can fill others. Sunday, September 13th is Christian Education Sunday. We celebrate and recognize all our educators who lead Sunday School and Small Groups. We will also be sharing the word of God that "shapes us" with a gift of a Bible to the children of our 3rd grade class. We look forward to seeing you on the 13th and at Make a Difference Day on October 24th!
Being shaped with you,
Meg & Julie

Christmas Stockings for Deployed Soldiers CPT John Monahan, one of the chaplains for a battalion at Hunter Army Airfield has asked our church to help him provide Christmas stockings for his soldiers. There are 800-900 soldiers in his battalion, and we have agreed to provide items for 100 stockings. The unit is preparing for a year long deployment this fall. The stockings will be prepared overseas-we have been asked to send items to put in the stockings as well as a note of encouragement (unsealed as they may be screened). The chaplain hopes that an encouraging relationship will develop from these letters. Items requested include- hygiene items, food items, books, crossword puzzles and AT&T phone cards. A complete list may be found on the table in the hallway outside the church office or visit the church website at www.iohumc.com. Please place items and letters in the marked boxes in the hallway by Sunday, September 27th. Thank you.
