Dear ,

                                     SUMMER TURNS TO FALL!
What a busy Summer it has been! Our staff and volunteers have done an outstanding job moving through all the events which take place during these months. I want to express appreciation for the following:
-College Mission Team - Back in May several college students and adults traveled to Haiti for Mission work.
-South Georgia Annual Conference the UMC - held in Columbus, GA, our Lay Members were Art and Matra Jordan. Dean and Betsy Hines were scheduled, illness kept them away.
-A new Church website and e-newsletter produced by Caryn Andrews and Josh Grotheer.
-Interfaith Hospitality Network- we hosted with a number of our members assisting.
-Vacation Bible School- Great participation by children and many adult and youth workers.
-9th Grade Mission - Our 9th graders and adult chaperones did mission work in Charleston, SC
-Kids for Christ workteam to Athens, GA
-Appalachian Service Project - 44 persons to Wolfe County, Kentucky.
-Celebrating the ministry of Caryn Andrews
-Adventure Camp and Pre-School  Camp  here at the Church.
-Deep Creek Youth Retreat
-Summer Dinner Theater - "Something's Afoot , a delightful comedy, murder mystery.
Directed by Andy Verdis and Produced by Kevin Vogelsang.
-The visit on August 2 by Rev. Actionnel Fleurisma from Haiti.
Our individuals on Mission trips - Sara Vogelsang, Catherine Glenn, and Peter Daniel.

When  events and names are listed , some are always omitted. The events above and so many more important ministries have taken place this summer. I am grateful to our hardworking staff and dedicated volunteers for enabling us to have a great summer!

AND NOW TO THE FALL
-The Anchor Worship Service will occur twice in August (16 and 30), led by our Worship Leader Lindsay Bradley. It will meet at 11:15 AM in the  Fellowship Hall. Rev. Meg Procopio will preach on August 16 and Rev. Wayne Racz is the preacher on August 30. Regular services will begin on September 13. Check out the service, and invite someone to come with you.
- Sanctuary Worship continues at 8:45 AM and 11:15 AM
- Wednesday Night Suppers resume on September 9.
- Fall Bible Studies are scheduled, beginning in September.
- Numerous seasonal activities for children, youth, and adults.
IF YOU THINK THE SUMMER HAS BEEN BUSY, GET READY FOR THE FALL!
                                                  Praying and Working with you,
                                                                  Dick Reese

Missions & Outreach

Back to School
It is that time again- time to hit Office Depot or Wal-Mart to gather all of those school supplies! I remember how each year the list grew longer and longer and so did the receipt! There are many children who will enter school this year as a foster child. Times for them are already difficult without showing up for school without the necessary supplies. As you are out picking up school supplies for your children, how about getting a few extra items for foster children in our community? Crayons, pencils, notebook paper, hand sanitizer, clear and mesh book bags-any school supply is needed. The Foster Parent's Clothes Closet hopes to prepare over 130 book bags this August. Place items in the boxes in the hallway. Thank you.

Don't forget!
The essay and application for Urbana 09 is due August 16th. Please return them to Jocelyn, Mackay or Julie by that date. Thanks.

Our Read to Feed Program ends this month. Please hand in funds raised and booklist by Sunday, August 30th. We will have a recognition program for all students who participated on Wednesday, September 9th during Wednesday Night Supper.

Youth & College

Dear youth & parents,
The summer has flown by! We had such a great time with you, watching you serve and play through the summer weeks. We hope that you were able to have God-moments these past few months, and we pray that you continue to have them while you're in school. To all the seniors leaving for college - we wish you the best of luck! Make sure we have your campus address so we can send you goodies during finals :) For those of you still around, we've got a lot of stuff planned for you. We hope you give it a shot and consider spending the next year with us as we embark on this adventure together!
BLEND
When: Friday Aug. 21st - Saturday Aug. 22nd
Where: Green House lock-in
Why: Welcome the new 9th graders into the youth group What you will be doing: You will be assigned a tribe and spend the weekend getting to know them, competing against other tribes, and learning more about what it means to be a family of believers at IOHUMC. We need both underclassmen and upperclassmen to make this weekend exciting for all - so please consider coming!
If you're interested, forms will be in the church office. Please be sure to fill one out and have it returned by Wednesday, Aug. 19th.
Go IOHUMC! Mackay & I will be doing our best to be in the stands cheering for all our youth this school year. If you are playing in games, performing in shows, dances, competitions, showcases (etc, etc) let us know! We want to support our youth in everything you do, in and out of church.
Keep an eye out for L.I.C.E! "Life In Christ Everyday" will kick-off in September where we will be exploring Christ together in small groups. We hope you consider joining us this fall :)

We're excited to be here for the next year - we hope you're excited too!

Music & Fine Arts

Come sing with us!  The Chancel Choir invites all interested singers to join us for dinner on Wednesday, September 2, at 6:00PM in the Fellowship Hall.  Bring the family, enjoy good food and fellowship, then stay for our rehearsal from 7:00 to 8:30PM.  This is also a chance for us to welcome back singers who may have "drifted away" during the summer.  Call Kevin or Nancy at 351-9223 for more information.

Our fall schedule of music activities begins in early September.  Look for more information later or check website for specific times, places, and starting dates, and for information about Children's Choirs registration.
