Dear ,
In His Service
"These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. See I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut..." Revelation 3:7-8b It's a "red letter" day today. (And a time for some "red eyes" as well.) So much so that I might actually have a box of tissues with me in the car because I have been dreading the inevitable battle with emotions...one which I will probably lose. Lately, there have been lunches, phone calls, office visits, cards, Facebook comments, etc. from family, friends and mentors. Great memories were relived, sad farewells said, plus many smiles and hugs. All leaning toward the change that today would most certainly bring. It's a time for closing one chapter of life and beginning another. You see, today, we are leaving what has always been home in order to fulfill God's calling in Colorado Springs. It's one of those times we call a "transition." Now, God is leading my family in another direction and although I am not sure of His plan, I know that my time here at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church was preparing me for this journey. For nine years this church has nurtured my spiritual growth through many bible studies, Sunday School classes, UMW circles, and volunteer opportunities. You have loved me through both the good and difficult times, and for the past 2 years Julie Vann has equipped me with the knowledge and passion to go and serve. Ultimately, that is the vision of our church and I am just one example. I know that this church will continue to love, lead, equip, and send many more disciples of Christ. Maybe you believe you need a special missions call from God, and you have been waiting for some supernatural feeling to get you started. But God has already stated his call repeatedly. God doesn't want to use just some of his people; he wants all of his people. Each of you has talents or gifts that combined with your passion can be used as part of God's story. Whether you are a young adult/youth translating in Mexico, Skyping with Ukrainians, creating websites and newsletters, studying to be a minister, or developing a Peanut Butter Project, you can be a leader and make a difference in this world. Our young parents can demonstrate compassion through service which speaks volumes to their children. Our older adults can be a mentor for our young mothers and fathers and give them much needed guidance and love. Remember, don't always focus on inside the church but turn and go out! God wants his whole church to take the whole gospel to the whole world. In one sense this is what my family is doing except it begins in Colorado. We are following God's calling and know that His hand shall lead us through this open door...After all, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path." (Proverbs 3:5-6) With Love and Blessings, Caryn |

She will share with us how she came to study music and leading worship. All men of the church are invited. No reservations are needed. SERMON SERIES
For the month of August, Rev. Reese is preparing a sermon series based on the Gospel of John, Chapter 6. He has titled the series "Don't Go Around Hungry!" The messages are as follows: August 2,2009 "What's for Dinner? John 6:1-21 August 9,2009 "Want to Live Forever?" HOLY COMMUNION John 6:51-58 August 16, 2009 "Where Do We Find Bread - Not Snacks?" John 6:24-35 August 23, 2009 "Are We What We Eat?" John 6:35 & 41-51 August 30,2009 "Do We Ever Get Enough?" John 6:56-59 Isle of Hope UMC will always be "my family" and I will miss everyone dearly. Thank you so much for your friendships and the opportunity to serve alongside so many of you in missions , for we each make up a part of the "body of Christ." Missions & Outreach
Second Harvest Food Bank Work Day Smithfield Hams has donated a large supply of hams to Second Harvest Food Bank. On Wednesday, July 29th at 2:00PM, SHFB needs volunteers to help unload the hams. Paula Dean will be at this event at which time a "commercial" will be filmed. If you would like to help unload the hams, please contact Julie. All volunteers will need to sign a media release to participate. We will meet at the church at 1:00PM to caravan to SHFB.
Baby Hats for Africa Please join us as we make simple baby hats for newborns in Africa. In many African countries, one in 10 babies dies before their first birthday. In countries where resources are limited and the temperature often drops into the 50s, it is a struggle to keep sick newborns and premature babies warm enough. A simple baby hat to keep them warm is often all that is needed. We will meet Saturday, August 1st in the Seeker's SS classroom from 9:00Am-12 noon to make these easy hats. If you can't sew, we need people to cut them out, too.
The following is a note sent by one of the families we served on ASP. "We wanted to let you know how much we appreciate your support of the ASP Project. Thank you for the love and generosity that you have shown my family. It was such a miracle and a tremendous blessing. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I think we got the best crew you sent! Hats off to Maliece, Joe, Ian, Meredith, Elliott, Grace and Clay. God bless you all abundantly! The Peck Family
Thanks to everyone who supported the ASP teams with prayers, letters, food, money and supplies. We had a great week in Wolfe County, Kentucky
