Dear , It's been a few weeks since you have received our last newsletter, and to say the least, it has been a busy couple of weeks. Meetings, seminars, travel to check on our projects, a marathon (#5 and I think the last) and some family time travel to see the grandkids.
The last newsletter that we sent was just prior to the time President Obama took his family vacation in Asheville. We could not say anything at the time, but we had quite an array of folks staying with us at Hotel Indigo Asheville Downtown. The White House travel staff, secret service and some of the White House press corps from CNN, Fox, ABC, and the New York Times to name a few. They rented lots of rooms, a floor of condos and also one of our unfinished condos that was turned into a press room with 40 computers. It was a busy, hectic time for our staff and they came through shining, and I'd like to give them a big Thank You. |
Hotel Business Picking Up
As we work through these most difficult times in our economy, we wanted to let those that have an interest know that it seems, at least from our prospective, that things seem to be picking up. After two snowy months of January and February, we've seen a marked improvement in our hotel occupancy. April and May are shaping up to be about 15% ahead of 2009, with all but one property out performing 2009. We're looking for this trend to continue throughout 2010. |

Asheville Properties Web Site Updated
If you have not checked it out in the last few weeks, you will find some major updates to our Asheville properties web sites. Go to the new "Landing Page" and then choose Hotel Indigo, The Suites at 151, or The Residences at 151. All these pages have been updated and expanded. Very soon there will be the addition of a video that is almost complete, and will be added shortly.

Some Interesting Web Sites
SeatGuru.com - When you take a trip, have you ever wondered how someone picks the right seat? One of my favorite web sites when I travel is SeatGuru.com. I go to this site right after I buy my ticket. You can pull up any airline and a particular aircraft, look at the comments and make your decision, then go back and select you seat.
Earthcam.com - Want to see what the weather is right now somewhere in the world? Or maybe you just want to take a peek at the Eiffel Tower or Saint Peter's Basilica. No matter where it is, you may find a web cam there. You'll almost feel like your helping Jack Bauer catch the bad guys as you take a look around.
TripAdvisor.com - Of course I think by now everyone knows that TripAdvisor.com is one of my favorites. This is a great site for travel, finding just the right hotel at the right location, and then selecting just the right room. Read the reviews and you will have a ton of information for your next trip. From a boutique hotel in Asheville... to a boutique hotel on a Greek island. You make the call. |

Giving Back To The Community
This past Sunday, Hotel Indigo Asheville sponsored the "Mutts & Divas Fashion Show" to benefit the Asheville Humane Society. The event raised over $1,000. If you'd like to take a look at the event, check out this video. Looks like lots of folks had a great time. Watch Video

The Recognition - We have some great folks that work for us in all our properties, too numerous to mention in one newsletter, but I'd like to let you know about our Food & Beverage Manager at Hotel Indigo, Gabe Fore.
We are all very excited to announce that Gabe has been officially invited to join the local chapter of the very exclusive and prestigious La Chaine des Rotisseurs. If you are not familiar with this, La Chaine is an international gastronomic society founded in 1950 in Paris. One can only join this society by invitation and its members consist of the most highly respected and successful professionals in the area. Gabe was approached by the Sr. VP of Guest Operations at the Biltmore Estate after he and some colleagues experienced the work he had done at Hotel Indigo, Phi Bar & Bistro.
The induction into the society is one of the highest honors and compliments Gabe has ever received - it means that some of the area's top professionals in our industry have noticed and been impressed by his work and achievements.
The Recipe - Need a great barbecue sauce that can be used on your ribs, chicken, burgers even our fries? Here it is. Then check out the "Phi 75".
 Espresso Barbecue Sauce

4 tablespoons mashed and minced garlic
-
4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
-
1 cup cider vinegar
-
1/2 cup soy sauce
-
2 cups ketchup
-
2 cups honey
-
Kosher salt (to taste)
-
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
-
˝ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 demitasse cups espresso (or about 1/2 cup of strong coffee or instant espresso
Mash garlic with the side of a knife and then mince finely to release oils. Add olive oil to a preheated sauté pan. Add the garlic and sauté until it gets light brown, about 1 minute. Add cider vinegar, soy sauce, ketchup, and honey and stir well. Add a pinch of kosher salt, then whisk in the coffee. Add freshly ground black pepper and crushed red pepper. Bring to a simmer and simmer for 10 minutes. Let cool and store in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Yield: about 5 to 6 cups

1 ˝ oz. Bombay Sapphire Gin (or any premium gin)

˝ oz. Fresh-squeezed lemon juice
-
˝ oz. Simple syrup (can be purchased where you find margarita mix or sour mix)

1 oz. Sparkling wine
In a champagne flute, add ingredients as listed from top to bottom, ending with sparkling wine. Garnish with fresh lemon twists and your favorite summer berries. |
