Air sealing the wet way
I continue to watch with great interest the development of Passive Houses. These are the houses that are built so tightly that you can heat them with a hair dryer. Most of what I've seen involves lots of peel-and-stick tape to stop infiltration. Which is why this video caught my attention. Seems a lot easier to do it this way, doesn't it?

Would you have your office here?
The Chinese have been building stuff quickly lately. I've shared a few of the time-lapse videos with you in earlier newsletters. Well, they're about to build this monster, and in just 90 days. How does that make you feel?
|
And yet...
When it comes to most of their buildings, the Chinese are still pretty inefficient. My guess is that they'll move ahead quickly, though. You get to that when you have the sort of government the Chinese have. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Thoughts?

And while we're talking tall
How about this award-winning, naturally lighted and ventilated tall building in Australia? I'll bet it took more than 90 days to construct, though. You think?

Proud of their radiators!
I like this publicity stunt from this British company. Who says radiators are ugly? Not these folks, and it's a nice plug for hydronic heating.

Gmail saves electricity?
Here's a fun link from subscriber, John Ackerly. It proves (or so it seems) that Gmail users use a lot less electricity than those who use Yahoo! for their e-mail. You have to bend and twist a bit on your way to that conclusion, but it's a fun journey.

Keep your pellets dry
Someone once told me that wood pellets are so dense that when you drop them into a bucket of water they'll sink like pebbles. But then I watched this video.

Hope to see you in Pittsburgh!
Marianne and I don't get there often, but when we do we always enjoy seeing you. Hope to see you in August for Dead Men's Steam and Classic Hydronics. Both are filling quickly. Thanks!
