Retailing high-tech
Check out where the Nest thermostat (brainchild of Tony Fadell, the man who gave us the iPod) is showing up now. And here's the latest on their battle with Honeywell. Be sure to watch the video in that second link. What Tony Fadell has to say is quite important.

Smart grid
Subscriber, Noel Kelly, sent me this very interesting video about smart grids, along with the comment, "Passive is nice, but smart grid is awesome, and achievable." For years, Noel has been making me think. It's quite unsettling.

Designer copper
Check out the fancy copper. With the price being what it is nowadays, copper is becoming the new gold. I'll bet you could design something even prettier. Thanks to subscriber, Robert O'Brien, for sharing. That man never sleeps.

With summer coming
I just had to share with you photos of these exotic swimming pools. How would you heat them? And please bring me an umbrella drink!

Dying for heat
Here's another one of those crematorium stories from our friends in Europe. Sure looks like a trend to me. This time, they're directing the body Btus into a stadium, where they'll be reducing the heating bill by 42 percent. Go team!

A tale of two eco-houses

And then there is this other house, which has been up for a while in Germany. Think these folks should talk to each other?

Smoldering wood chips
Which, in most cases, could be a cause for concern, but not in this case. This is a fascinating system that's showing some impressive savings, and it's using wood that would otherwise just lay on the forest floor and rot. Good thinking!

Nothing to do with heating
This could be the most beautiful short video I have ever seen. As the old man says, "The only appropriate response is gratefulness."
