Like to stay in a Snoozebox?
Our daughter, Meghan, was doing some work in South Sudan a few months back and she stayed in a shipping container. She said it had all the comforts of home and was quite nice. I spotted this story and sent it to her. She said hers was similar but not quite as nice. What next?

Our trip to Peerless
34 friends joined us on our big trip to Peerless' facility this past Tuesday. We toured their foundry, the cast-iron assembly plant, and the Peerless lab in Boyertown, PA. From there, we traveled a few miles to Bally, where we saw the assembly plant for their high-efficiency boilers. Bally is the site of the old Gold Toe sock factory and that amazing, 100-year-old wooden floor that I wrote about in my Plumbing & Mechanical article. Thanks to the folks at Peerless and all who joined us on the journey. It's a day we'll be talking about for a long time. Check out what's being said about it on the Wall.

Passive retrofit
I got a note from subscriber, Matt Knopp. He writes, "I've always loved the comfort and efficiency of hydronic heat and have thus been a fan/follower of yours for about 15 years. Anyway, I know you're interested in passive houses and eco-friendly heating, so thought I'd pass along the link. It's the first retrofit using Passiv Haus guidelines in the USA, maybe North America. This family, nice people by the way, live just a few doors down from us in South Minneapolis. They're keeping a blog of the job. Here is latest entry. Have a great day!"

A critical report on tankless heaters
Subscriber, Ray Wockley, sent this article along and told me that Fine Homebuilding magazine had cited it. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it.

This one touched my heart
Two beautiful charities came together to help make Staff Sgt. Travis Mills' life a bit easier. Here's the story. We can't possibly do enough for these people who gave so much. Thanks to Neven Soric for the heads up.

Don't mess with this guy
This has nothing to do with heating but it sure did make me smile. Who says you'll never use those math classes in the real world? Thanks to Ray Wohlfarth for sharing. Ray's writing some great columns in the BNP magazines lately!

ANSI looks at energy efficiency
This should make for an interesting meeting. Perhaps we'll have Energy Performance Certificates here in the U.S. before long. To be continued.

Finally
Having warm feelings about the dearly departed just got a bit easier in England. Read all about it here.
