A graphic look at Greenwashing
greenwashedHere's a quick look at ways to avoid getting scammed if you're interested in buying green products. Thanks to subscriber, Neven Soric, for sharing. If you have thoughts on this one, I'd love to hear them. Think those Big Box stores are better than other stores?

The nice thing about gravity
old mineIs that it's always available. Check out this story about old technology getting new life in the old mines of Minnesota's Iron Range. What goes up must come down, but in this case, not until you need it.
Meanwhile
delivering coalIn the still-working coal mines of Pennsylvania, where all that relatively clean-burning anthracite is, the locals are having a tough time getting even some of it. Here's the link. World economics at its best!

Plug vomit
popping socketI'm all for saving energy, and for turning off stuff when I'm not using it, but this new invention seems more an annoyance than a help. What do you think?
From our friend in Sweden
green mountain data centreSubscriber, Mark Kretz, who is an engineer at Energi- och Miljötekniska Föreningen in Stockholm (Pronounce it. I dare you.), writes frequently and I always learn something new from him. He sent this note the other day, "A topic nowadays is data centres, I noticed your  text about the Icelandic one. Here is a link to a Norwegian site where they proclaim that they have the 'world's greenest data centre for secure data' in an old NATO cave that will be cooled by water from a fjord. At the same time, Facebook, is building its first data centre in the north of Sweden at Luleå (Lulea). Apparently there were two cities competing for being host of this centre, Bergen (Norway) and Luleå. Luleå won because they could promise electric power without interference. There has not been an electrical failure in Luleå during the last 40 years or so, and great access to cheap cooling."

Makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?

Here's one that I wrote for Supply House Times. Some things to consider, no matter what business you're in. It's the little things that make a difference.
