The dollar value of a kid's health
school kidsI kept waiting for the punchline as I read this article from Australia, but it never arrived. Would you send your kid to a school where they vented the heater into the classroom? Seems like that's the norm in Australia.

CO research
carbon monoxide detectorAnd along those same lines, but with a saner approach to life, we have this study that the fire officials in Liverpool, England are doing to try to get a handle on this dangerous gas. Good idea.
When Big Allis burps
Queens plantThe neighbors tend to notice. Check out this very New York story about the relief of steam from one of the world's largest boilers, which serves the city's district-steam network. Thanks to subscriber, Christopher Stehling, for the heads-up.

Why, when I was a boy!
kids going to schoolWe walked miles uphill to school. Both ways! That's why I love this story about the teacher in Southwest England who turned off the radiators as a fun eco experiment with his students. As you'll see, some were up in arms over his barbaric act of allowing such unbearable cold to take over the classroom. Being curious (and having way too much time on my hands), I checked the local temperature for that day. It was 55 degrees outside. Oh, the horror!
Solar beads
Something new from our friends in India. So many inventions, so little time.

turbines sunsetBefore you click here for the article, see if you can think of what they might be. I got three out of five. Here's another one that's not on the list, but you have to like heights. Thanks to subscriber, Bob Boltz, for sharing that last one with us.
Nothing to do with heating
shopping at TargetMy daughter Kelly sent me this one, and being a dedicated Target shopper, it had me rolling on the floor. It's amazing how many heretofore unheard-of products you can find at a Target. Enjoy!
