Measuring the competitive cost of solar PV
aerial view of solar panelsThanks to subscriber, Neven Soric, for the heads-up on this article from Forbes. Is solar PV here to stay this time? This writer sure thinks so. What do you think?

Swords to plowshares
bunker solar plantCheck out what the Germans are doing with this old Nazi bunker. What a creative use of a building that certainly isn't going anywhere!
Nothing to do with heating
MIT and angry birdsBut it does have to do with Angry Birds and MIT students, who have large brains. And I just love that photo

As Maine goes
maineI've been watching Maine for the past year or so because I think it's a good barometer for the oil-heating business. Unless prices drop soon, I think we'll be seeing more of this happening in other oil-heat states.
Filling fast!
dead men steam school logoOur two Dead Men's Steam Night Schools for January and February are filling fast. The Lovely Marianne and I will be in Astoria on January 5, and Parsippany, NJ on February 8. These two always sell out. Hope you can make it!

How wood pellets are born
making wood pelletsI've been looking at wood pellets for a bunch of years, but I've never watched them being made. Until now, that is. Curious too? Check out this video. Oh, and just as a warning; the background music may make you want to scream.
Scanning Cornell
infrared scan of cornellFrom the air! Here's a fascinating story for you. The weather has to be just right, but what a fine idea from such a terrific engineering school.
Got leaks?
aeroseal sealant technology diagramThanks to Robert O'Brien for the heads-up on this new method of sealing leaky ducts. Huge potential for savings here, but I wonder if it's okay to breath aerosolized vinyl polymer particles. That's probably just me, though, right?

Hug your kids.

Dan
