Another reason to use tempering valves
amoebaLowering the temperature of a water heater can be dangerous in many ways, as this article points out (in the third incident). Thanks to subscriber, Marco Nantel, for sharing this one with us. Scary stuff.

Green is growing
Here's an article showing the number of green projects going on and it's impressive, considering where all this green stuff was just a few years ago (that being nowhere). Got my attention!
And part of that number
green logistics centerHas to do with projects such as this one and this other one. I've said it before, but it keeps coming up. The military is going to drive this green movement because the military has more at stake than civilians do. Always.

IKEA is at it again
IKEAThis time in the U.K., where they're committed to being 100% off the power grid in just a few more years. This article explains how they're doing it. Ever see IKEA instructions? They're challenging. Great meatballs, though.
A building with a heart
UW Madison Education BuildingAnd a history! Thanks to subscriber, Alan Mercurio, for the heads-up on this story about the new/old Education Building at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. The article has no pictures, but you can find a terrific PowerPoint presentation about the project here.

Danish energy
DenmarkIn spite of its reputation as one of the greenest countries on earth, Denmark still gets nearly half of its electricity from coal, but it looks like that's about to change, and in a big way. Check out this article. It's loaded with fascinating statistics. If you ever get the opportunity to go to Denmark, do so. The country and the people are wonderful.
Passive trouble
passive houseThe Passive House Institute, which started the movement toward super-insulated houses that need no heating systems, just broke up with what was its U.S. partner. From this article, it looks like the break up was an angry one. That could set things back for a while, but then again, maybe not. How important is certification if the building does what it's supposed to do?
And Passive tract housing
No problems with the German Mother Ship as far as the Brits are concerned. Take a look at this project they're about to start. Gee, why can't we all just get along?

Hug your kids.

Dan
