The vocal majority
Of Europeans, that is. Check out this survey that just came out recently. Lots of people in the EU want to save energy, and make it mandatory to do so, but for the big stuff, such as home insulation and cars that guzzle less fuel, they're looking for subsidies. Hey, that sounds like home!

Good solution for a small town
In Alaska, with all its oil, oil is very expensive. It's one of things that makes me look out the window and wonder. Here's a story about how a tiny village is dealing with this. Tough, resourceful people, aren't they?

Fed Green Goals beyond reach?
That's the conclusion of this article. Some of the older buildings are just too tough, they say. I'm thinking about all those steam-heated buildings across the country, big old ones, and I'm thinking about guys like Steamhead who specialize in tweaking old steam systems and showing remarkable results. You can do a lot with a little. I wrote about Steamhead and his achievements in my book, Greening Steam. So much low-hanging fruit out there, just ready for picking. Opportunity knocks.

Let's blame the kids
Hey, that's what they're doing in Wales. Want to know why the climate is changing? It's those darn kids with all their gadgets. It's that nonstop texting and staring at computer screens. It's a phone in every pocket and it's all their fault. So there's your answer. Best quote of the article: "They're the most educated about environmental matters, but they're probably the biggest consumers of goods and services and causing more environmental damage than any of their predecessors." So there!

Because they have too much money

Still #1
Subscriber, Lemore Hecht, who works for Hertz, sent me this note and I thought it was cool enough to share with you. He writes, "Hi, Dan. The Hertz Corporation's solar energy program continues to expand with the installation of solar electric systems at various Hertz locations. The most recent installation was completed at a Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation (HERC) facility in Commerce City, Colorado. Hertz is the first equipment rental corporation in the nation to announce the completion of a solar power facility. Installation of solar panels will continue at the following HERC locations in the upcoming months: Tucson, AZ, Augusta, GA, Bogart, GA, Norcross, GA, Boston, MA, Baltimore, MD, Newark, NJ, and Harrisburg, PA. The project is a part of Hertz's initiative to install solar electric systems across the United States. Earlier this year, Hertz announced that it will be completing the installation of solar electric systems at 16 Hertz facilities throughout the United States. Other locations include Hertz facilities in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania." Good stuff, and thanks for sharing it with us, Lemore.

Sunny underground
Here's an article about what the Swedes are up to these days. I remember a December trip to Sweden, when the sun rose at about 9 am and set mid-afterrnon. Not the sort of place you'd think of as being ideal for solar, but then there's this idea of storing the sun underground. As you read, note where they're talking about exporting this technology to the Gulf states. Stay tuned.
