Heating a house with hot sand
There's a great story in Solar Today about a house that collects solar energy all summer and stores it for winter use in an insulated bed of sand, buried underground. Here's the PDF. Creative stuff!

A trend grows in Brooklyn
I've told you about this passive house in, of all places, Brooklyn, NY, but this article goes into lots of detail and I thought you'd enjoy it as much as I did. How 'bout that infrared photo? Fugetaboudit!

What to do with an old landfill?
How about doing what the folks in Canton, Massachusetts are doing? Turn it into a huge solar array. Here's the story, and don't miss the comments below the story. Good questions about the methane.

Nothing to do with heating
But this silly stunt with a model plane will give you a good sense of the tip speed of a wind turbine (at 22 RPM it's 300 feet per second). Speaks well for the knucklehead with the remote control in his hand, but still not a great idea. Oh, and turn down the sound if you don't like annoying music.

Something to do with heating
Thanks to subscriber, Eb Barth, for sharing this interesting use of geothermal water with us. Roger Hanson has turned winter into a whole 'nuther thing. I'm wondering if The Lovely Marianne would let me get away with something like this. Perhaps I could cover my neighbor Tony's house. Give him a surprise when he gets up to go to work. Hmm.

One very expensive oil tank
Check out this story about a leaky oil tank in Ontario, Canada, and the can of worms that it opened. It's a shame to lose a house of this age to something that could have easily been prevented, but that's just my opinion. What's yours?

Another creepy business story
Something else to watch out for if you're in your own business. Check out this story. It pays to keep your eyes open, doesn't it?
