There's an interesting (temporary, some say) shift away from fuel oil to wood and gas. Our government helped with some of that, but much seems to be a reaction of the locals to the price of oil this winter. This is telling because Maine has long been a barometer for the oil-heat industry. Read all about it.

The University of Southern Maine is getting off oil and onto gas. Here's a link. Colby College, also in Maine, is switching from oil to biomass, and here's a link for that.
