What is the future of hydronics?
I sure don't think it's in the residential area, and here's why. Just my opinion, and I'd love to hear yours.

Heatballs deflate
heatballsA few months back, I told you about the clever Germans who were trying to skirt the ban on incandescent light bulbs by marketing them as heatballs. Well, it seems the German government doesn't have much of a sense of humor (who would have thought that?). They've put the kibosh on the entrepreneurs, and here's the rest of the story.
Party on!
radiator partyI enjoyed this story about the guys (and there were plenty of them) who got together to rid this old house of its radiators. The hernia potential was there and that kept me reading to the last word. Also made me wonder how many Dead Men it took to do the installation back in the day. I'll bet it wasn't nearly this many. What do you think?
Soviet heating
Here's one of the big drawbacks of those old, hot-water, district-pipes under the city streets in so many formerly Soviet countries. Watch where you drive, and where you walk.

Absolut piggy
Check out this story about how this Swedish town of 80,000 managed to get completely off fossil fuels in 20 years. Some good possibilities for America in here.
Passive house, warts and all
Breezeway houseHere's a very honest interview with a homeowner who just had a passive house built in Utah. Lots of resistance from the normal construction/finance chain of command, as I would expect, but pretty amazing results for spending just 15% more on the project.
Afraid of heights?
tower climbThanks to subscriber, Tom K., for sharing this video, which has nothing to do with heating, but is fascinating nonetheless. Warning: If heights freak you out, do not watch this one. (I'm so glad I work at a desk.)

Happy New Year!
Thanks for giving me permission to write to you this year. The reader is more important than the writer and I value you very much. Thanks for reading.

Hug your kids.
