Payback on energy-efficiency improvements
Here are the first empirical results on whether improvements made to a home's energy usage pays back when it comes time to sell. This is helpful stuff as the U.S. begins to look more closely at such legislation, which I think we'll see happening state by state rather than nationally.

Hey, Lynyrd Skynyrd!
I wonder if this couple had that song in their head while this was going on. Oo-oh that smell! And good luck getting the song out of your head this lovely Thursday.

Jersey Boys
I spotted this story, and although I haven't seen the building, I wonder if anyone considered a condensate-transfer pump with a rerouted return for that broken return main beneath the lobby floor. They're keeping the steam heat to take care of the bathrooms, and with most of the building now off the steam system, that boiler is probably going to be way oversized, right? But in Jersey, I guess it's Pump Fists, Not Condensate. Hmm, tee shirt?

Heat underfoot
Here's another example of this movement I've been watching for the past few years, where facilities that have unwanted heat (at the time) store it underground for later use in district-heating systems for homes. I'll keep watching; thanks for watching with me.

Nothing to do with heating
But I think you'll enjoy this exercise in structural creativity as much as I did. Don't forget to say Wow!

Concrete bugs
Here's a fun story about a new way to repair old concrete. Let the bacteria do all the work while you sit back and watch. Now if they could just get a germ that could fix those buried copper lines.

Merry Christmas!
Thanks to Paul Yunnie, my British buddy, who now resides in Australia, for sharing this wonderful happening in a food court.
