Just added to the Library
I just came across and scanned a very early copy of what became Consumer Reports. This issue covers Heating and Ventilating, Lighting, Fire Extinguishers, and Building Materials. It offers great, unbiased insights into the popular methods used at the time. Here's the link.

Free insulation!
But you have to live in the U.K. and you have to be at least 60 years old. You also have to be a customer of British Gas, own the property and have walls that are suitable for the insulation. Strings attached, but still a nice program for the seniors. Here's the link.

And free solar PV panels?
This is one of those human-nature stories. If you live in the U.K. and own your home, you can get some free, solar PV panels and help your country go green, but if you work the numbers (as the article explains), you're much better off financing the panels yourself. But to an average human being, "free" sure does have its appeal, doesn't it? Especially in these times. It is an interesting business model, though.

Meanwhile, in New Jersey
They're talking about a new land rush, where food farms become solar farms instead of shopping malls. Empty spaces such as roofs and fields are sure looking different these days. Much food for thought here.

Well, here's a goal for you!

27 miles of buried pipe
Here's another article about that new IKEA store that's going up in Centennial, Colorado. Lot's of tasty details about the massive geothermal system that's going to heat and cool the new mega-store. All that and good meatballs!

One big-ass pumpkin!
In honor of Halloween, here's Montana's biggest pumpkin, specially grown with the help of a rudimentary radiant-heating system. I love people who do stuff like this. Ah, to find passion in a pumpkin. Boo!
