Guppies?
That's what they're calling former Young Urban Professionals (once Yuppies) who have grown older, wiser and greener. Well, at least that's the story from this British site. Got a name for former Yuppies who are not greener these days? Send it to me and I'll mention it in an upcoming newsletter.

Kid power
While we're on that side of the ocean, let's take a moment to consider this report from Scotland, which says that kids are the most powerful influence on grown-ups when it comes to being more energy efficient. I believe it because many years ago, it was the nagging of my four little daughters that finally got me off the cigarettes. Thank you, ladies!

What's the greenest city in Europe?
The BBC says it's this one. Nice plain-English explanation of how they make it all work together. Those Swedes are focused!

Modular passive houses
It was bound to happen, and I'm delighted to see it happening in America, and in Maine of all places. Check out these good-looking, and ridiculously efficient homes. And all you have to do is connect the parts.

Yahoo's chicken coop
Everything old is new again. Check out Yahoo's new data center in Lockport, NY and how they're using an old design and the prevailing winds to save lots of watts. What's especially cool about this is they're doing it in Lockport, which is the home of the late, great Birdsill Holley, who gave the world both district heating and the fire hydrant.

Steamy Somerville
We just booked the Dead Men's Steam Night School into the Holiday Inn, Somerville, MA. Marianne and I will be there on the night of November 30 and we have room for just 50 people who want to get a whole lot of knowledge in three and a half hours. Hope to see you!
