A fascinating take on architecture
green buildingThis article and video are well worth your time. The video is about a remarkable building and one architect's vision. The article below the video explores the true potential of "green" and how those older buildings in our cities are starting to look better and better. This one really made me think.

Solar furnace
Here's something to keep your eye on. Lots of furnaces in the good ol' U.S. of A., and plenty of sunshine. Seems like a perfect marriage.
CHP, large and small
CHPI gained some good insight into the German market (specifically Berlin) market for combined heat and power systems, both the huge ones that have the pipes beneath the streets, and the small ones that take care of individual homes in this article. Lots of specifics here. Enjoy.
I'm thinking lots and lots of food coloring
EarthWant to change the climate? Go to the supermarket and then get in a boat. This article reminded me of that great Will Rogers quote. When asked what he would do about the German subs that were sinking American ships he said, "Boil the ocean." When asked how he would do that he replied, "I'm a big-idea man. Someone else will have to work out the details."

A different sort of Passive House
passive house in oregonThis one's in Oregon and it sure looks like it's been in the neighborhood for years. The quick video explains what this is all about and the thought of heating this place with 12,000 Btuh makes me smile. It truly is all about the building envelope. Here's the link.
How's this for planning?
eco towerI was following this South London building while it was going up, curious to see whether the wind turbines were going to do their job. As you can see, there's a bit of a problem, along with some other problems. Being on the cutting edge often involves some bleeding.

Steam Radiators
This could be the answer
wind farmGuess who places wind turbines where there's little wind? (Click here to find out.) Note how the money and the politics come into play here. Good lesson for us in the U.S.
Rube!
This just might be the longest Rube Goldberg trick ever, a true time vampire at nearly a half-hour. It's goes from mechanical to chemical in a way that will make you glad these people aren't after you. Some nice pipe radiators in the background (I know, smack me).

Hug your kids!
