The bad old days
I was doing some research when I came upon this article, which made me appreciate even more the fine work of ASME and the Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance and Inspection Company. Imagine living during a time when boilers were this dangerous.

High-tech green buildings
Here's an interesting photo essay from Forbes. You can click from one photo to the next with the Next button that's to the right of the BMW logo (took me a minute to find it). I especially like the Eden Project with its inflatable-deflatable insulation. It would be neat to have clothing that does that, but then we'd probably have a tough time fitting through doorways on those really cold days. Hmm.

Keep an eye on this
This article makes a great point about how much data is going into the "cloud" and what that means to all of us. I've come to believe that district heating, and the hydronics that goes along with district heating, will play a larger role in our lives, and not too far down the road.

Speaking of district heating
Check out this article about what's going on at Boise State University. Phase Two is the part I'd like you to consider. Watch for more of this sort of thing as more of these projects come on line.

Home statistics
Some interesting data from H.U.D. by way of the real-estate folks. Homes are larger now than they were in the '70s, but I'll bet they get smaller as we move into the next decade. Note, too, that hydronics (including steam) warms just 11 percent of the entire U.S. housing stock. Still such a small piece of the pie, even after all the chatter about the glories of radiant heating. The future of hydronics may be in those big jobs rather than the small ones. It will be interesting to see how the manufacturers react to all of this. Stay tuned.

Might be time to buy stock in Carrier
Take a look at what these two brilliant lads at Purdue are working on, and then think about all those heat pumps out there that just don't cut it when the temperature plummets. Looks like there's something brand-new on the way.

From SuperSoaker to something even more interesting
Take a look at this video about two amazing inventions that are coming out of Lonnie Johnson's lab. I hope he gets the funding. I love to see stuff like this coming out of America.
