Passive voice
passive houseThanks to my friend, Heidi Thorne, of Thorne Communications for sharing this link to the International Passive House Association. Good stuff that will help you understand this movement. Heidi is a marketing wiz, and she her site has some unique promotional products that are good for the earth and even better for your business if you want to show your customers how concerned you are about energy use. Check it out here.
Lightning strikes twice

Here's something to think about. A house gets hit by lighting on Tuesday, destroying the HVAC system, but everything else seems to be okay. Then, on Thursday, the attic goes on fire. Scary stuff, but it comes with a great lesson. Check the attic!
Up on the roof

And while we're up there, we might as well visit this story about the homeowners in one of those planned Florida communities who would like to save energy by having a white roof. This, however, is not so easy in the Sunshine State.
Go paint a mountain!

Hey, if it works on roofs it should work on mountains, right? The World Bank is funding an experiment in Peru to see if whitewashing mountains can slow glacial melt. The hope is that sunlight will reflect off the surface, creating a cooler environment to regrow the mountain's glacier. Better use water-based paint!

Once again, it's human nature
Here's a story about those new smart meters, which are supposed to help us all save electricity. Turns out they're not as smart as everyone thought they would be. Folks still need constant feedback to show what's in it for them. There's a good lesson here for anyone selling energy-saving equipment. Who does the explaining (and the reinforcing) after the installation?

This article is on the same topic, but with a commercial customer. Consider what's possible when the proper feedback is involved. Good communication wins every time.
That's cold!
And so was Mum when she returned from her American vacation. How'd you like to have a kid like this one?

And it's coming from America, but so far, it's only working for a few seconds at a time, but think of the possibilities. Here, take a look.

If you've been sweltering in recent days, here's a story that will cool you off. My brain always twists a bit when I read these Australian stories and notice the date at the top of the story. July. Brrrrr!

Hug your kids!
