Why should I pay?
Here's an interesting article about solar and rebates and what motivates people to buy into this not-so-new concept of heating water with sunlight. Always seems to come down to the bottom line, doesn't it?

However, where money is no object
You can spend whatever you'd like and, oh, it really helps if your building happens to be in a desert. Check out the solar-thermal system at the brand-new Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building. Those folks don't do anything small.

And how 'bout this new idea for Hawaii?
Once again, expensive, but I think pretty interesting. Ain't learning fun?

A very bright idea
The folks at Grundfos often impress me with the ideas they come up with. This is one that caught my attention. Take a county with leaky water mains (Eastern Europe, for instance). Figure out how much water folks traditionally use, and then drop off some of the pump pressure when they're not using it. Less pressure means less water lost through the leaks. Sure, it would be best to fix the leaks, but consider the economics of the two options. Worldwide, water is becoming the new "oil."

Hot, hot, hot!
Thanks to subscriber, Ed Voytovich, for finding and sharing this fun experiment that does a fine job of showing the power of superheated steam. As if you needed another reason to be careful out there.

Soft comfort
Thanks as well to subscriber, Chris Peters, for sending me this video. Ah, computer graphics at its best, and a fine use of imagery to convey comfort. Nice job, Gas Industry!

Passive payback?
The passive house (it has no heating or cooling system) is getting a lot of attention in Europe, but the cost of these super-insulated homes are high and not everyone is getting on board. I thought these insights from Poland were interesting. Once again, it's a matter of who pays.
