Boilers and bagels
bagel
I get a regular e-newsletter from George T. Wilkinson, Inc., Energy Efficiency Engineers. This one caught my eye because of the unique way they used a bagel to talk about how they work with this one particular customer. This is marketing at its best. Check out the MassArt video.

How about this?
ice crystals
Scientists in Israel have managed to freeze water by heating it. It made me smile to think that there are people in the world who consider such things, and then manage to make them happen. All for a better understanding of clouds.
New (and better) buildings creep into Japan
Traditionally, Japanese have lived in unheated homes and gathered around heated tables (called a kotatsu) to stay warm. You'll see one of those in this video, and you'll learn about a new movement toward the passive house.

classic hydronics
Marianne and I are looking forward to seeing our friends at the Warwick, RI Classic Hydronics Night School on March 11. If you're going to be one of them, make sure you say hello. It's always great to see you!
Music to my ears!
The composer, Travis M. Ramsey, had asked my permission to use the title of one of my books for this musical piece and I said YES!, of course. Then he set out to find an orchestra that would agree to play it, and the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra stepped up. Travis had sent me the score, which I treasure. I can't wait to hear it played.
Chicken out?
chicken
That's the decision facing a lot of poultry farmers in the U.K. this bitter winter. Leave 'em out or bring 'em in? Ah, the things most of us never consider.

What are you doing, HAL?
Remember HAL, the computer in the film, 2001 - A Space Odyssey?  Know where his name comes from? Take each letter in HAL and replace it with the following letter in the alphabet, and then click here to see what IBM is up to these days.

Greening Steam book cover
Here are some nice words about my new book, Greening Steam. Scroll down a bit to read them. Made my day!

Hug your kids.
