Special Plea for our Miracle Medical Fund
In the last few months, PoundHounds has had seven requests for surgeries and major medical expenses. Coupled with expenses incurred during the first half of the year for more standard medical expenses, such as testing for heartworm, vaccinations and anti-biotics, PoundHounds has already incurred expenses exceeding $8,000.
The good news is, we had enough funds to cover all seven requests and the dogs in need are either recovering comfortably in the care of Animal Control, or all healed-up and adopted into loving homes.
The bad news is, our Medical Miracle Fund is, to coin a phrase, almost bone dry.
I invite you to read the stories of the seven wonderful dogs we were able to sponsor through our Medical Miracle Fund: Juanita, Stella, Max, Penelope, Apollo, Mr. T and Jesse. We've
been calling these dogs "The Lucky 7" because so many people have gone above and beyond to help save these dogs and give them a second chance at life.
PoundHounds was able to respond rapidly and come to the aid of these dogs because of your generous donations in the past. Please consider helping us replenish our Miracle Medical Fund by making a donation now, so we may continue to achieve our goal of never turning away a medical request for a dog in need. Click here to donate right away.
Warmest regards,
Seana Dowling

| Miracle Medical Fund Dogs
Special Plea for Donations
In the course of only a few months, PoundHounds received seven requests for expensive medical treatments. Thanks to your generous donations in the past, we were able to cover the expenses of all of the seven dogs we were called upon to help. The outcomes were excellent for the dogs, but now our Miracle Medical Fund is nearly empty.
Could you please help us replenish our Miracle Medical Fund? Any little bit will help. Please donate whatever amount you can; donations of any size will make such a difference. Please read these brief stories about the dogs we call "The Lucky 7," who now have a second chance at a happy, healthy life. The "Lucky 7"
Max arrives at his foster home after emergency surgery | Max was hit by a car. He was seriously injured, yet his owners were not willing to do anything to help. Billerica, MA Animal Control was called...just in time to save Max's life. Max was taken to a veterinarian for emergency care and PoundHounds was called for help funding the expensive surgery and follow-up medical treatment. As if this ordeal wasn't enough, Max heartworm test revealed he was positive. PoundHounds covered the cost for heartworm treatment. The total cost for all of his medical expenses was $1,531. We are all thrilled that Max was adopted by the wonderful people who fostered him while he recovered! Mr. T on his way to the vet.
 | When Mr. T. arrived at the Belchertown, MA Animal Control facility, a health check revealed that he had a tumor in his armpit area. The Animal Control Officer contacted PoundHounds to fund the surgery cost of $266. Please read our "Happy Endings" article to find out where Mr. T is now.
Juanita snoozes in comfort after surgeryJuanita was a stray, and in serious need of medical attention. The Belchertown, MA Animal Control Officer called PoundHounds for help. PoundHounds funded all Juanita's medical expenses including surgical removal of mammary tumors, a complete dental cleaning and extraction of several teeth, and a spay procedure which cost $728. The best news for Juanita--she has been adopted into a loving home! Jesse before treatment for skin disease.
 | Jesse was fending for herself as a stray for a long time before Palmer, MA Animal Control found her and brought her to safety. Jesse was then transferred to Ashland, MA Animal Control. Jesse had an awful skin condition and was in agony with pain and itch. The Ashland Animal Control Officer called PoundHounds to fund her trip to the vet for a diagnosis, where the vet discovered Jesse had dermatitis. The cost of the testing was $430. Jesse is now on medications for her skin. Her fur is growing back nicely while Jesse looks forward to finding her forever home. Apollo recuperating after surgery to repair his broken leg | We're not sure how the Apollo's leg was broken, but this 3-month old Great Dane mix was truly lucky when the Animal Control Officer in Fitchburg, MA came to his rescue. It was a team effort to bring him back to health and get the surgery to repair the break. PoundHounds stepped in to pay the $381 cost for the initial vet exam, Elizabethan collar, antibiotics and pain relief medication, while the City of Fitchburg agreed to fund the surgery. Apollo is recovering nicely in a
foster home.
Stella, before her skin-care regimen and special weight-loss diet
 | Stella: Surrendered by her owners, Stella was so over-weight that she couldn't even scratch herself. She had rubbed patches of fur off her sides, trying to tame the terrible itch she had because of a skin infection. Stella also had a bad ear infection. She was miserable when she went into the care of Agawam, MA Animal Control, but the ACO contacted PoundHounds right away to get her some relief. PoundHounds funded the medical expenses, $193 to cover the treatment for the skin and ear infections, and to get her started on the special diet Stella needed to slim down and get healthy again.
Penelope waits patiently for her dental and spay procedures. | Animal Control in Attleboro, MA found Penelope as a stray. Her teeth were rotten and she needed to be spayed. The Animal Control Officer reached out to PoundHounds to sponsor her dental care and to cover the cost of her spay procedure. Penelope will recover in foster care while she waits for a permanent home. |

Happy Tails
Mr. T, one of our "Lucky 7", was cared for by the Belchertown, MA Animal Control Officer, Anna Fenton, while he waited to find his forever home. Fenton discovered he had a tumor when she brought Mr. T in for his health check. Fenton contacted PoundHounds to cover the surgery to remove the tumor.
Mr. T healed up just fine and was discovered by a wonderful family. He's pictured here going to his forever home where he shares the house with Cookie, his new pal. |

About MAC Spay/Neuter License Plates
The Massachusetts Animal Coalition (MAC) disburses grants to non-profit humane organizations and municipal animal control agencies. The grants are funded by the sale of the Massachusetts Spay/Neuter License Plate Program. MAC has provided funds for PoundHounds to pay for spay/neuter procedures for PoundHounds sponsored dogs. In 2009, funding from MAC allowed PoundHounds to spay or neuter 50 dogs in 18 different town pounds across Massachusetts. Those procedures represent $7,500 in MAC support. Please show your dedication to animals and help control over-population. Register your new car or swap your existing plates for spay/neuter plates. The additional cost for special plates is $40 with every registration renewal. The first time, $12 covers the cost of making the plate and the remaining $28 goes to the program. At subsequent renewals, the entire $40 funds spay/neuter services. The standard registration charged by the registry to all drivers is $50 every two years, making the total for special plate holders $90. |
