Sexual Violence Awareness Event to be held
submitted by Melissa Smylie
The Associated Students of MSU-Great Falls (ASMSU-GF) will be hosting a number of local organizations dedicated to the prevention of, or educating the public about, the impact of violence on our community. The Rally will take place in Heritage Hall on Monday, April 16 from 10 a.m - 4:00 p.m.
Advocates and representatives will be on campus to answer questions and will speak throughout the day to relate information and personal stories. ASMSU-GF's goal is to raise awareness first regarding the problem of partner and family-member violence, and second to provide education on the warning signs, risk reduction, and resources for victims.
The event was organized in response to the recent tragedies in the community that will have lasting effects on the College's student community. Because the topic is so serious and can be difficult to discuss, students feel bringing resources to campus makes it easier for students, faculty, and staff to engage with one another to learn about and prevent further violence in our community.

Congratulations to Stephen Wurz and Mandy Jordan who were recently honored at the Montana All-Academic Team Recognition Lunch in Helena. Ms. Jordan was unable to be there, but Mr. Wurz was in attendance with Gwen Joseph, Interim Dean/CEO and Sandra Bauman, Phi Theta Kappa advisor. All nominees were presented certificates and medallions by Deputy Commissioner John Cech and Commissioner Sheila Stearns.
Both students were nominated for the New Century Scholar award, a program sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Mr. Wurz was selected as a New Century Scholar from Montana and will attend a celebration for all awardees at the American Association of Community Colleges Annual Convention in Orlando, FL later this month.
Seventh Graders to Visit Campus
Many 7th Graders from the Great Falls public schools will be touring campus on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Please welcome these future students to the College! The purpose of these events is to give young students the opportunity to 'set foot upon' a college campus as they begin thinking about the role education will play in their adult life. Hopefully, they will see that it is possible for them to go to college and remove any feelings of insecurity or intimidation that they might feel.
Senator Tester's staff visits campus
James Wise, Legislative Director, Cheryl Ulmer, Great Falls Field Director, and Robyn Madison, Great Falls Field Representative, toured MSU - Great Falls last week.
Brian Cayko and Mel Lehman provided focused information on the Simulated Hospital, the trades programs on campus and the WindMontana Project in addition to an overview of the programs and services offered by the College. Pictured is Brian Cayko demonstrating the need for respiratory skills on one of the healthcare mannequins in the Emergency Room of the Hospital.

Data QA
Did you know?
Students who dropped a course in fall 2011 were much more likely to say that they had spoken with an advisor (35%, compared to about 20% in spring 2011). In addition, fewer students dropped a course later in the term than in prior terms.
