Let your voice be heard - renaming MSUGF

You can list your suggestions for a new name for MSU-Great Falls virtually using the http://www.wallwisher.com/wall/MSUGFCOTRENAME

 site.

A couple of notes:  The Board of Regents determined the framework of the new name in their March meeting - but still wants input from campuses about the first part (place name) of the name.

The new name for the COT will look like:

<Place Name> College of Montana State University

What are some of your ideas for the "Place Name"?  Enter your ideas at:  http://www.wallwisher.com/wall/MSUGFCOTRENAME

A couple of examples of  names given at the Board of Regent meeting included:

  • Central Montana College of MSU
  • The Falls College of MSU

This site will remain open for the next couple of weeks - be sure to let your voice be heard!

Dental students serve the community

AmeriCorps continues to make a difference

March is "American Red Cross Month," and in celebration of the month, Campus Corps and the American Red Cross of Montana will be distributing 445 disaster preparedness bags to the community, training recipients about what items every bag should contain, and stressing the importance of having a family action plan in the event of an emergency. See KRTV coverage

March 10-17th was AmeriCorps week.  Campus Corps promoted the program in local businesses by placing signs containing program information, program accomplishments, and enrollment information.

March 16th, Campus Corps and the Boys and Girls Club held a St. Patrick's Day Carnival at the Boys and Girls Club of Cascade County from 4-6pm.

Service Saturday (date TBD but quite possibly March 31st ).  Campus Corps and From Garbage to Gardens will be moving completed compost dirt to an elementary school (possibly Sky Line) in order to create a community garden.

MSU-Great Falls students being surveyed on College Experience

 Submitted by Wendy Dove

What constitutes quality in the community college experience? Research shows that for many groups of students, the more actively engaged they are, the more likely they are to learn, to persist with their studies, and to attain their academic goals. Student engagement, therefore, is a valuable measure for assessing the quality of colleges' educational practices and identifying ways they can help more students succeed. MSU-Great Falls is joining in this effort.

Beginning this week, students in randomly selected classes at MSU-Great Falls and many other community colleges across the nation will have the chance to share their views by participating in the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE). The survey generally takes 45 minutes to complete. Survey items focus on how students spend their time, the nature and quality of their interactions with faculty members and peers, and what they have gained from their classes and other aspects of the college experience. Results from the survey will be used to inform ongoing improvement efforts at MSU-Great Falls.

Pi(e) Day Celebration

Submitted by Mandy Wright, Assistant Director, Developmental Education & Transfer Division

The Learning Center will be having a low-key Pi(e) Day on March 21. Actual Pi day is observed on March 14 (3.14), but since that day occurs during spring break, the Campus will be having a party on the 21st instead. No special activities are planned, other than bringing and eating pie. If you wish to join in by bringing a pie, please do so. You can coordinate with myself, Renata, or Val. Or, you can just stop by the Learning Center and enjoy some pie, with other Pi(e) lovers!
