Marija Carte poses in front of the new menu she designed for the
Bookstore and Cafe as part of her Digital Illustration class. |
Last semester brought competition to the table with the Graphic Design students in their Digital Illustration class. The task was the redesign of the bookstore/café menu boards. This competition came with some fantastic prizes courtesy of our generous bookstore manager, Steve Halsted.
Eight students had a chance to examine the current menu and see how they could put their own twist on the sign to make it better. A panel of judges was brought in for the ranking of the submissions. They had a tough task ahead of them as they went from sign to sign evaluating each design for readability and aesthetics. When judging was complete, the three top designs were awarded to Marija Carte who took 1st place (pictured above in front of her work); Bronson Stubbs (2nd) and John Godwin (3rd).
Marija's design will be on display through spring semester; John's will be on display through summer semester; and Bronson's will be on display for fall semester. Be sure to stop by the bookstore/café, grab something to eat, and take a look. Congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to everyone involved! |

The top 3 places receive scholarships and all-expense paid trips to the International Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Chicago this year; 2 additional students receive honorable mention. KC entered the project in DE 270 Kitchen & Bath I and is a student of Julie Myers.
And the 3 winners in the General Electric/National Kitchen and Bath Association 2012 Kitchen Design Charette held December 15 are Tiffany Royland, Lori Krause, and Cynthia Semple, all 2nd year interior design students at MSU Great Falls. The students entered the 3-hour designCharette as their final exam in DE 270 Kitchen and Bath I fall semester. Each of the young women will receive a $50 prize from GE for their winning scores and go on to the national tier of the competition. GE requires the project be graded by an Certified Kitchen Designer who is not their instructor; Arnie Owen, CMKBD of Owen Marketing, MSUGF Interior Design Advisory Committee member, graded the projects again this year. Congratulations, students, and thank you, Arnie.

This process will engage regional governments, planners, stakeholders and residents throughout a 36-month period to develop a high road approach to emerging jobs and contracts, and a series of baseline and benchmark metrics that can guide evaluation of progress. Training opportunities will be provided throughout the project period with current data and new resources made available to residents, organizations and planners online through the Northcentral Montana Sustainable Communities Clearinghouse. |
