Simulated Hospital Dedication & Ribbon Cutting

Students, faculty, staff, and friends of MSU - Great Falls gathered on Tuesday, November 29 to dedicate the College's new Simulated Hospital.
The event began with a short program featuring guest speakers and the Chamber Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in the Atrium, followed by an open house in the Simulated Hospital. The newly completed facility offers 10,000 square feet of patient care environments, which were manned by students enrolled in the various healthcare programs. Each of the replicated emergency, surgical, intensive care, radiological, and examination areas at medical facilities featured realistic dramatizations of real-life situations..
Construction was made possible by our local legislative delegation's support of a $1.6 million appropriation in the 61st Legislative Session. In addition, much of the equipment had been donated by health care facilities in Great Falls. Without the generosity of our community and the support of our legislators, the Simulated Hospital would not have been built. |

Dental Hygiene Seniors Shine at Montana Dental Hygienist Association Annual Session
 | |
DHS Remineralizing Prophy Powder - Robin Boyce, DHS, Toni Muray, DHS |
Several Dental Hygiene Senior Students just returned from the Montana Dental Hygienist's Association Annual Session in Kalispell where they presented research to licensed professionals throughout the state. The students began the research process in their first year by creating a bulletin board display of an area of interest related to dental hygiene. The students continue the research project into their senior year and then present the final product at MDHA Annual session. Those professionals in attendance receive continuing education credit to utilize for licensure requirements.
The students have enjoyed networking with staff members Rhonda Kueffler and Ja Sweat in regard to the graphic design and formatting of the posters themselves. Since they have been kind enough to offer their time and expertise to the students and our department, the presentations have exceeded our initial expectations and simply get better each year! Their expertise elevates the research projects from a collegiate level to a professional level which has not gone unnoticed by those individuals who have seen the end results at the Annual Session.
We are so proud of our students' commitment to represent themselves, their program and their college in such a professional light.

Campus Corps Corner
Service Saturday is this Weekend!
On December 10, Campus Corps will be helping Habitat for Humanity. They need to wrap up construction on a house by the end of the month and volunteers are needed to put up blue board insulation. We'll also be doing some indoor painting and other insulating activities. If you are REALLY reluctant to work outside (it is supposed to be really nice Saturday), Habitat's Restore will be taking a few volunteers to work inside to clean, rearrange, and restock. We'll start working on the construction site 10:00a.m. at 707 7th Ave S.
Cheers,
T.C.
To get involved, contact T.C. Knutson in Student Central at 771-4324
or campuscorps@msugf.edu. Come and see how much fun Campus Corps and helping the community can be! |

MSU-GF Student Involved in Scavenger Hunt
People all over the globe were scrambling last week to set a new world record in a scavenger hunt, including MSU-Great Falls student Alex Ferreira. And It's not just any scavenger hunt - it's officially known as the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen, or GISHWHES.
The list of scavenger items include some 250 objects and projects, ranging from a person in a monkey hat on a couch playing with at least 3 kittens, garning a mere 8 points; to a Volkswagen beetle covered completely in whipped cream with two smiling children standing beside it, which can net the team a whopping 50 points. Different point values are assigned for each item or project completed.
Alex told KRTV news reporter, Erin Schermele, in a recent interview, "It is exciting and it is a lot of fun to get to run around with my friends and buy weird things like Cabbage Patch Kids."
The team Alex is on is made up of people from Japan, Spain, Canada, Michigan and California. Each member paid $10 to participate in the week-long game, and as a team they had to work out splitting up the tasks among the members.
The team had to be creative and persuasive; for instance, they tried to convince reporter Erin Schermele into shaving a racing stripe down the middle of her head - an item valued at 33 points. Erin politely declined, so the team moved on to the next item on their list: making a Cabbage Patch doll dance in front of a camera.
Here are just a few of the more interesting challenges:
- Someone completely covered in cotton candy. The only part of them that can be showing is their face, which has to have lipstick all over it. (19 points)
- A chandelier made from kale with at least 3 light bulbs that are turned on. (24 points)
- An ER doctor in an ER performing an emergency tracheotomy on a tickle-me-Elmo doll. (39 points)
- Wearing business attire, recite a Doctor Suess passage of at least 21 words. (21 points)
- A one-minute unedited speed play of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy played by 4 characters with costume changes. We must hear the line "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" And we must see the audience. (26 points)
- Make a functioning iPhone app that helps facilitate scavenger hunts. (120 points)
In addition to breaking the world record for the most participants involved in a scavenger hunt, the idea is to encourage people to step out of their normal comfort zone for a week - and for this group of somewhat reserved students, it has done just that. Of course the grand prize could be the real motivation to this group - a trip to Italy!
