The Gr8 8
Teri Dwyer's advertising class made quite a splash on campus when they started their awareness campaign on the Eight Abilities.  The class was divided into small groups, each with the assignment to come up with creative ideas to share information about the 8 Abilities that students are expected to possess when they complete their degree with the College.

Starting with a pre-campaign survey, the campaign included T-shirts, posters, flyers, an 8-ball and screen savers. A post-campaign survey will be taken this week to allow students to measure the effectiveness of their efforts.

Interior Design Gala - The Fabulous 50's
The Gala this year is "The Fabulous 50s" with a retro theme.  It will be held Thursday, May 5 at 7 pm in Heritage Hall.  The juried categories will be 10 categories ranging from Residential Design to AutoCAD.  All events are free and open to the public.

Some of the extra fun events include a cakewalk, 50s finger foods and the silent auction to benefit Interior Design Club. "My students are totally getting into this, even sewing those fancy 50s party dresses!" said Julie Myers, Program Director.

Students will be setting up Tuesday, May 3 with the jury coming in that evening. The displays will be open to the public in Heritage Hall from  9am to 5pm on Wednesday and Thursday May 4-5.
Overall body health begins in the mouth
MSU - Great Falls Dental Hygiene students, Vanessa Stavlo (left) and Shawna Kugler (right),  worked with MSU - Bozeman Nursing student, Jamie Kirkhart (center), on a Dental studentscommunity project required in their Community Dental Health course.

Working with students at the Montana School for the Deaf and the Blind, they researched the effect of the education they provided in improving the Plaque Index on the students' teeth. They did an initial screening of their subjects, measured Plaque Index, provided instruction and education on oral care and followed up after a week to again measure Plaque to see if there was an improvement.

The College is also collaborating with Elizabeth Kinion, a MSU - Bozeman Nursing  Director, to provide oral health screenings and care to mothers and babies at Fort Belknap. These two projects provided a great opportunity for the two healthcare professions to work collaboratively for better overall body health.

School Board Candidate Forum
The forum will be held in the Cameron Auditorium, located in the new south tower addition of Benefis Health System. There are eight candidates seeking four openings on the school board. This is the first contested election the school board has had in four years.

Journalism students from the high schools will be asking questions of the candidates and are working with the local chapter of the American Association of University Women to formulate those questions.
The event is being coordinated by the Great Falls Tribune, the AAUW, Benefis Health System and the journalism classes of Beth Britton and Linda Ballew.

"I think it's a good opportunity," said Majorie Morse, a longtime AAUW member. "I like to be an informed voter." With the May 3 election sneaking up on voters, and ballots to be put in the mail later this week, Morse said the more information the public can have on the candidates, the better informed voters they will be. "I'm anxious to work with the students," she said. "These issues are important to their lives."
For more information on the event, contact Morse at 452-6671 or Kristen Cates, education reporter at the Tribune, at 791-1463.
