Greetings!
On June 2, 2010, MSU - Great Falls experienced a network failure.  As part of this failure, email services and network accessibility were lost for a few days while IT services repaired the network servers. Email and network services have now been fully restored and services have been restored; however, with this being the summer semester, many faculty members and adjunct faculty are not on campus and will need to contact IT services for remote access to email, vpn, etc.

Changes that were made by IT services to get the network operational required changing all user passwords and the domain that you log in to.  IT services has taken measures to ensure that this process is automatic for end users but some work is needed on each computer.

If you have not contacted IT services to have your password reset, please do so at your earliest convenience.

Some changes have also been done regarding on and off campus access:
If you are on campus and unable to log into your computer, contact IT services to come and modify your computer. The process per user will take about fifteen minutes. This is required for all computers that log in from campus.

All user passwords have been reset.  You may have your password changed to what it was before the incident occurred, but you will need to contact IT services to have the password reset for your account if you have not already done so.  All password reset requests must be done via phone or in person.  We will not send passwords via email.

Email has been restored for all users.  When you log in to your email you will see a new folder called Restored Mailbox, this is a folder that contains all of your email, contacts, and calendar information prior to June 2nd.  IT services will help you adjust your mailbox if you need assistance.  You can drag and drop messages and folders from your old inbox to your new inbox.

Logging in to outlook web access will no longer require that you put the domain information as part of your username.  The old way of logging in required that you used MSUGF\username for your login.  Now you can simply just use your username and password.

Again, if you have any questions or problems, please contact IT services for assistance.

Sincerely,
Ken Wardinsky
Chief Technology Officer

Perkins Update
Submitted by Jeri Pullum
MSU-Great Falls' application for $258,232 in Perkins IV funding has been approved by the state. This annual federal grant is awarded to increase retention, completion and placement for students in career and technical education, which at MSU-Great Falls includes all Health Science and Trade, Industry and Technology programs. The 2011 award will be funding a number of different campus initiatives.

One will be to help pay for consultants to conduct a retention audit and prepare suggestions for improving retention. The grant also will support a faculty-driven effort to improve success in accounting. Accounting faculty will operate a special accounting lab for students who are struggling with this important class.

The grant will pay for faculty development in the new Sustainable Energy Technician program and support release time or stipends for faculty developing an online Business program, a Dietetic Technician program and preparing a needs assessment and feasibility study for adding an Associate Degree Nursing program. The feasibility study is required by the state Board of Nursing for any proposal to expand a nursing program. Funds also will be used to send faculty excellence award winners to the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) conference and award ceremony in Spring 2011.

The grant also will support license fees for the JobWire software program, which connects students with potential employers. The Respiratory Care, Physical Therapist Assistant and Radiological Technology programs will be using grant funds to bring exam prep professionals to campus to help students prepare for their licensure exams. And, finally, Perkins grant funds will purchase instructional equipment for the Sustainable Energy Technician and Respiratory Care programs.

For more information about the Perkins grant program, please contact Judy Hay or Jeri Pullum.
