Skilled Trades Career Fair - February 23
MSU-Great Falls College of Technology, Great Falls Public School, Montana Contractors Association, and Local Union No 41 have teamed up to offer the 4th Annual Skilled Trades Career Fair. The fair is on February 23 from 10 am - 2:30 pm in Heritage Hall on the MSU-Great Falls Campus. Professionals from a variety of skilled trade-related businesses will be on-hand to explain the career opportunities in their specialty areas. Representatives from colleges and local apprenticeship programs will also be in attendance to provide information on educational options.

Participating vendors will bring information on the job openings they currently have available. Some vendors will be bringing hands-on demonstrations.  Around 400 Great Falls and area high schools students will be attending.  This free event is also open to the public.  For more information contact Natalie Nefzger at natalie.nefzger@msugf.edu or 771-5132.
Seventh Grade Tours
Submitted by Natalie Nefzger
Would you like to shape the future, today? Volunteer! We are looking for volunteers to guide tours for 800 local seventh grade students. The tour days are split with 400 students on April 27 and 400 on April 29. Each tour is 50 minutes and volunteers would be asked to give 4 tours on each day. Our goal is to limit each small group to 20 students per guide. If you are interested, please contact Natalie at 771-5132. We welcome your enthusiasm.
Dental Hygiene Receives Arizona Approval
Submitted by Kim Woloszyn
The MSU-Great Falls College of Technology's Dental Hygiene program has received approval from the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners for meeting the legal requirements for our graduates applying for certification in administering local anesthesia/nitrous oxide in Arizona.  Instructor Gail Staples, RDH BA has done a great job with the development of the program's local anesthesia course to include all requirements required for our graduates in applying for licensure in administering local anesthesia in Montana and now in Arizona!  With all this snow in Montana we may have more of our graduates opting for warmer temperatures down south.
MSU - Great Falls Science Rodeo
Chemistry Calf Roping?  Bacterial Bronc Bustin'? Cow Pie FOLF? Bull Riding Drama and Trauma?  Students enrolled in various science classes at MSU COT will have a unique and fun opportunity to apply their science skills at the COT's Science Rodeo on March 2 from 6 - 8 pm in Heritage Hall.  Teams of 4 and 5 students will compete in six different events that combine problem-solving in various scientific disciplines, such as chemistry, microbiology, and Human Anatomy & Physiology, with some roping, riding, and Frisbee throwing. For example, in the Chemistry Calf Roping Event, students first have to earn a lariat by solving a chemistry problem and then successfully lasso the "chemical calf". As in the real rodeo event, the best time wins. At the bull riding trauma station, students will view x-rays and cardiac monitors to figure out a cowboy's injuries. For the creative folks, there are also awards for the Best Team Costumes and the Most Original Team Name. No fancy belt buckles awarded at this rodeo, instead students will be competing for numerous prizes donated by local businesses, as well as points in their respective science classes. There is also a trophy for the top scoring All Around Team.

"We were looking for something really out of the ordinary to break up the routine of college science classes", says Dr. Cherie McKeever, Science Department Chair and organizer of the event. "It's a fun way to get students more involved and working together. The multi-discipline team approach has really helped pull students together from different science classes. Each team is looking for someone from a chemistry class, a microbiology class, and so on. There's a lot of networking going on. It helps if you can find someone who knows a little about how to handle a lariat too."  MSU - Great Falls students are invited to participate. Call 268-3705 for more information.
College AID 2010 Appeal
Submitted by Tom Figarelle
I hope you found information in your College mailbox recently regarding the 2010 College AID program.  As many of you know, this is our internal effort to engage faculty and staff in the philanthropic support of our campus. You may be interested to read the list of projects that were financed by CollegeAID donations in 2009.

Like most other colleges and universities who undertake similar campaigns, funds generated from this campaign benefit our institution directly, providing financial support for projects that may otherwise not receive funding. A donation form accompanies the information I placed in your mailbox. Please review it and contact me if you have any questions.

It is no secret that we are an incredibly generous campus community.  Individually, we are active donors to various non-profits in our Great Falls area.  I request that you strongly consider giving to the College AID program, incorporating it within your annual charitable giving. To donate, you can provide a one-time only gift, or select a payroll deduction. Imagine the power and inspiration that would arise from our external, community donors if nearly 100% of all faculty and staff gave to this effort!  Such generosity and passion would speak volumes.  Whether it is five dollars once, or five dollars every pay period, please give!

Thank you for your time, and please consider giving to the 2010 College AID program.

As the Director of the Montana Department of Revenue, I want to share some of my best income tax season advice with you so that your tax filing experience will be the best it can be. I also want to thank you in advance for filing and paying your state income taxes on time.

File Early
If you are expecting a refund, you will receive that refund faster if you file early in the tax season. The earlier you file, the better service the Montana Department of Revenue can provide in getting your tax return processed and your refund issued to you.
