Emergency Notification System
MSUGF Alert is the emergency notification text messaging system for MSU - Great Falls which is used by the College as a way to instantly reach your mobile device when an urgent situation needs to be communicated. In the event of an emergency, a text message will be sent to the mobile number and/or email that you register with the system. This is a free service provided by the College; however, normal text message fees may apply.
Register by clicking HERE or go to the MSUGF Alert page on the College's website and select the SIGN UP link on the upper right corner. After you enter your mobile number and/or email address, you will receive a text confirming that you have opted into the alert system to receive emergency notifications.  For more information, click here.
Jerry EricksonWelcome Two New Co-Workers
Jerry Erickson, the newest member of the MSU - Great Falls' Maintenance Department, started working at MSU -Great Falls on Monday, November 16, 2009.
Jerry was born and raised in Augusta, Montana. He actually graduated from the College in 1979, when it was the "Great Falls Vo-Tech," with a degree in Data Entry and General Business.  He has over 27 years of experience in various departments with the State of Montana.
Jerry has been married to his wife, Patricia, for 11 years and they have a son, Jacob.
He enjoys being in the outdoors in his spare time and likes to hunt and fish whenever possible. He is also an avid history buff and enjoys traveling around our great state  of Montana searching for historical facts.

Paul McCartneyPaul McCartney is our second new employee in the Maintenance Department - you will find him working on the 2nd Floor and around the Book Store. Paul spent several years in Nebraska and Kansas and a year in Idaho before moving here. He enjoys fishing, hiking, and sightseeing. Although his brothers and sisters presently live in Kansas and Nebraska, Paul's fiancee lives here in Great Falls.
Welcome to MSU - Great Falls, Jerry and Paul, we are looking forward to working with you!

Anatomy & Physiology Inspiration Night
Submitted by Bill Krieger
Congratulations and thanks to all of those folks involved in making the A&P Inspiration Night held on Tuesday, November 17 so successful.  Credit for putting all of this together goes, no doubt, to a lot of people, but I would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Cherie McKeever for her particularly significant and substantial efforts to organize and lead the effort.
The night, it seemed to me, was inspirational on several levels.  I observed many students listening intently to the various program presentations-there were nine of them-and in many cases taking up instruments or other hands-on materials to participate.  I also saw graduates of some of the programs who were now leading the presentations (that's a inspiration!), and as an observer, I was inspired in my regard for the students and the faculty for the terrific work they are doing.
The feeling of connectedness and community that filled the air was not about the pizza and lemonade; it was about people working together for common goals and aspirations, recognizing that the struggle can be arduous but the rewards are fulfilling and rewarding and exciting. Thanks again to the entire crew who made the evening terrifically inspiring.
Interior Design Students and Faculty Attend Conference
Submitted by Patricia Nelson and Julie Myers
The American Society of Interior Designers Intermountain Chapter (ASID) held its annual meeting in Sun Valley, Idaho, in October.  Patricia Nelson and Julie Myers attended with a number of students from the Great Falls and Bozeman Programs.
"The student competition was wonderful and inspiring to see," said Patricia, who is now serving on the ASID Board as Director at Large. "It gave me confidence that our two year program can easily compete with the large four year universities that entered work."
The Distinguished Speaker Series featured Angela Merola, a behavioral science expert and is a business and life coach.  She spoke about developing relationships with clients that dramatically improve your overall success on an Interior Design Project and in turn increase client referrals.
The keynote Speaker, John Troxell Jr., CMG spoke about the upcoming color and design trends for 2010.  He is Member and Chairholder of the Color Marketing Group and is a Foundation Member of ASID.  "We had a great time," said Sherry Ann Roos, Great Falls Interior Design Club Secretary. "It was good to interact with all the reps and have contact with interior designers working in the field."
Graphic Design Program on Display
Submitted by Tim Paul
This fall the newly-launched Graphic Design program at MSU-Great Falls boasts a large incoming first-year class and tons on enthusiasm.
One of the classes, Digital Illustration, is proud to exhibit one of their packaging assignments, which was to conceive and realize original cereal boxes. The students' displays may be found in South Court.
A companion class to Digital Illustration is Digital Design, where students have spent their last couple of weeks designing art work for CD/DVD cases. Those will be on display sometime this week in the showcase outside Heritage Hall.
Required classes that are a part of the Graphic Design program for Spring semester include Photography,
Typography, Web Design, Desktop Publishing, and a new offering, GDSN 221: Publishing and Pre-Press. This class is essential in preparing students to take their designs to the all-important commercial printing level. The class will investigate the procedures for making sure the work they have prepared for their clients retains the quality they envisioned during the previous stages of the design process.
RespiratoryRespiratory Care Students Raise Awareness
From the American Association of Respiratory Care Newsletter
Respiratory Care Week was October 25-31 and students from the MSU - Great Falls Respiratory Care Program recognized it by raising respiratory care awareness. They were featured on the local news. They also visited local high schools to raise respiratory care awareness and elementary schools to raise tobacco awareness.
According to faculty member, Brian Cayko, therapist recognition displays were set up in the clinic. A display featuring the H1N1 / Swine Flu stresses the importance of protecting yourself (see photo). For people with asthma or other respiratory illnesses, respiratory health is always a top priority - and caring for those issues may be a career worth pursuing. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a 20%+ increase in job opportunities for respiratory care therapists, with a median wage of $45,000 per year.
This week the respiratory care profession is being recognized nationally, and here in Great Falls, people interested in the field have a local option.
Click HERE to see the video and read the complete transcript of the KRTV coverage.  The following is an excerpt:
For people with asthma or other respiratory illnesses, respiratory health is always a top priority - and caring for those issues may be a career worth pursuing. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a 20%+ increase in job opportunities for respiratory care therapists, with a median wage of $45,000 per year. Program director Brian Cayko says its an under-recognized profession: "Working in intensive care units, critical care units, taking care of life support systems, mainly mechanical ventilation and other cardiopulmonary type of systems...but its not just critical care, we are also involved in home care, sleep medicine, pulmonary function testing, lots and lots of education for patients as well."
