Holiday Closure
Submitted by Scott Karaffa
On Wednesday, November 11, 2009 we will observe the Veteran's Day Holiday. There will be "NO" classes and the building will be "Closed". Enjoy the day off and remember the men and women of the various Military Service Branches that are currently serving our country and those who have served in the past to ensure our FREEDOM.
The Marty and Natalie Show Lives On . . .
Submitted by Natalie Nefzger
We hosted another great group today from Browning High School. Each student was a senior at the new high school in Browning and participating the Talent Search program. They were thrilled when asked about their new high school. It's so exciting for them to spend their last year in a new building. Currently, there are 160 seniors at Browning High and of that 160, there are 130 with potential to graduate. If they make the 130 mark or higher, it will be the largest graduating class in the history of Browning High! What a proud moment for them!

These 11 students were also excited to ride to Great Falls on a new tour bus. One of the male students was particularly proud to note that the artwork on the outside of the bus was done by his father. I walked out to their bus and was amazed at what I saw. What outstanding talent to paint on such a large canvas! The inside of the bus was fun too and of course, the coolest seats were in the far back of the bus.

In all, this was  great visit. They asked good questions and were really well prepared to be on a college campus. I continue to be proud of the work done by Talent Search, Upward Bound and Gear Up coordinators. They are changing lives in big ways!
Skilled Trades Career Fair
Submitted by Natalie Nefzger
It's not too early to share the word. MSU-Great Falls will offer high school students and the general public another opportunity to learn more about careers in the skilled trades and apprenticeships. Tables are free for vendors and include lunch. If you'd like to reserve a spot, call today. This event is brought to you by the Great Falls Public Schools, MSU-Great Falls, and Montana Contractors Association.
Hannah Ruehl Featured in the VISTA Newsletter
Recently, Hannah Ruehl, the VISTA on campus, was featured in the Montana Campus Compact VISTA newsletter. Below are some excerpts from the interview.

Favorite Hobby and why you enjoy doing that particular thing.
If people are a hobbym they are my favorite. I love meeting people where commonalities and differences are constant sources of providing multifarious conversations. But the one thing I find in common with most people of almost all backgrounds-the reason I'm torn asunder-is food. I love cooking food, talking about food, sharing food, and inventing new ways to incorporate food into life. No matter what the differences might be, we all eat. When we eat together we share of ourselves.

What fo you consider you personal greatest acheivement?
Perhaps it's making non-cuddly people cuddly. I work on the untouchables. Physical affection is a crucial part to human development. Babies die without it. Our need doesn't go away just because we are surviving as adults. We are built to live in community with each other, and affection is a crucial component to healthy communion with one another.

What is your favorite thing about Montana?
Favorite thing about Montana: skoosh. What a great word! "He was just off by a skoosh. Could you just give me a skoosh of that butter? It made me a skoosh angry". Fantastic. Adding that one to the vernacular.
New Thrift Store at Paris Gibson Education Center
A new student-business is percolating at Paris Gibson Alternative High. Maria Taylor and her "Sew What!" students are in the process of opening a thrift store which plans to be open to the community as well as students. Students will be fully involved in the store's operation and two were participants in the interview and selection process of the store manager.

Start-up money for a six-hour employee and store furnishings has been a state grant via Tom Kotynski. Please watch for information on the store's opening and our donation and consignment processes. In addition to used thrift stock, we hope to have new items, especially for infants and babies, produced by our students, available for purchase.
