Celebrate our Constitution and American Indian Cultural Heritage
Mark your calendar - September 17 at 3:00 pm in Heritage Hall
Dedication of the new Freedom Shrine
Freedom ShrineThe Freedom Shrine is an impressive, permanently mounted collection of 30 of the most important and historic American documents, including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States and the Gettysburg Address. The updated pieces were donated by the Great Falls Exchange Club and installed by Jerry Eberl and Scott Karaffa (pictured above) in the internal hallway leading to the Atrium.
Mike Jetty, Indian Education Specialist from the Office of Public Instruction, will share his perception of the importance of the inclusion of Indian Education For All in the Montana Constitution. Mike will also give a general explanation of how tribal governments work with state and federal agencies.
Arlyne Reichert will talk about the part that women play in the U. S. and Montana Constitutions and the contributions of women, historically and in present day in state and national government. Bob Campbell will talk about the importance of our state and national Constitutions and what they mean to all of us. He also will give an overview of the history of both. Arlyne and Bob were candidates at the 1972 Constitution Convention.
Deb Kottel, a law professor from the University of Great Falls, has accepted our invitation to attend the event. She hopes to be able to bring other professors and students to MSU - Great Falls to participate in the event.
Coffee with the Dean for Students
This semester Dean Schaffer has invited students to meet with him in an informal setting. There will be two dates and times offered, so students have a choice of when to attend. The first one is on Tuesday, September 15 at 1 pm, and the second one is on Wednesday, September 16 at 10 am. Both of these will take place in the Administration Lobby. Students who attended orientation were given tickets for free coffee at the event. Please get the word out to our students.
Michael Jordon Shoes Up for Grabs on Ebay
Jordan Shoes
In 1998, Marty Foxman came across a pair of 1st Edition Air Jordan's. Upon realizing the significance of these shoes, he intended to give them to the College in order for them to be sold in support of creating an American Indian Scholarship Fund. Marty is innately aware of the difficulties Native students face while in college, and he hopes this scholarship will encourage many qualified students to complete their degree, and in turn, improve their lives and their communities. 2009 United Way and Montana Shares Campaign
It is that time of year again - the United Way and Montana Shares campaigns. MSU - Great Falls is proud to participate in these campaigns and asks you to consider contributing. Both campaigns are running from now until October 15 (but if you contribute after that time, they will both still accept them).
In the upcoming days, you will be given contribution sheets and information on each campaign. This year, we are attempting to surpass our total giving and participation from last year. No matter what you give, be it even $5, it can help the many people in need in our community. Scott Karaffa is overseeing the United Way campaign, and is doing a raffle again this year. When you turn in either pledge form, your name will be entered into a drawing for prizes.
In addition, there will be a cutest baby picture contest. Faculty and staff have been asked to submit baby pictures of themselves. These pictures will be posted on campus for everyone (including students) can vote by placing money in the jar for the cutest baby. If you have any questions, please contact Scott Karaffa.
Leadership High School
The students participating in the Chamber's Leadership High School program will be on campus this week for their opening reception. The event is from 7:00 - 8:00 pm in Heritage Hall on Wednesday, September 16.
