Welcome to the Adult Basic Literacy Education Program
Please welcome the Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE) Program staff to our campus! I am happy to introduce to you the Great Falls Public Schools staff who provide services for many adults in our community. The ABLE program provides basic literacy education, English as a Second Language, college brush-up, and GED preparation and testing for individuals needing those services in our community. They have moved into offices in the R wing - R270-273 is where their offices are, and R275 is their classroom, though they will also schedule other classrooms as needed for much of what they do. Please drop in and say hi to: Katya Irish - English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor Steve Opheim - Math and Science instructor Jackie Goldhahn - Reading and literacy instructor Vicki Mattingly - Language instructor Veronica Griffith - Administrative Assistant They are wonderful people that many of our students know because they started their journeys to us with some work with the ABLE program folks. You will find this team a great group to work with who are interested in serving their adult clients in our adult environment so that their students will have an easier transition from their services to ours if they wish. Another great asset to their relocating to our campus is for the ESL students Katya teaches to have access to our students and staff for practice with their English skills. She tells me it is most beneficial for them to listen to and engage in conversation with lots of different people. She may be working with them in our cafeteria, Atrium, South Court, or other spaces so that they can get some of that experience with all of us. Some of her students hold professional degrees in their home countries, and some are students at UGF, so the exciting variety of people this program will bring us will enrich us all! Please make this wonderful group of professionals and their students feel welcome here at MSU-Great Falls!! | |

The last Radiologic Technology graduate from May took his Boards and passed. This puts us at 100% retention, 100% participation and 100% pass on the National Boards! This is a tribute to the EXCELLENT job that Tom Liston has done with educating the radiology students. |

New Hunting Opportunity for Nonresident College Students From Fish and Wildlife
A new law encourages nonresident college students to hunt in Montana. Senate Bill 185, passed by the 2009 Montana Legislature, makes nonresident full-time college students eligible for a discounted big game combination license beginning Sept. 14. The big game combination license includes conservation, fishing, upland game bird, deer and elk licenses.
Students eligible for the discount include: · full-time nonresident students taking 12 credits or more at postsecondary institutions in Montana, · Montana high school graduates enrolled as full-time students at out-of-state postsecondary institutions and whose parents are Montana residents.
Qualifying students may purchase the $70 big game combination license at any Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks regional office or the Helena headquarters office. To purchase the license, nonresident students going to a Montana college must present a valid student identification card and an enrollment verification form from their school. Former residents who are now full-time students at out-of-state colleges must present a current enrollment verification form, valid student identification card, a parent's Montana FWP ALS number and a copy of their Montana high school diploma or General Education Development degree.
A $10 hunting access enhancement fee-and proof they have passed hunter education instruction in Montana or another state-are also required.
For more information call: 406-444-2950, or go to the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Web site at fwp.mt.gov and click on Hunting. |
