All faculty and staff are invited to gather for Convocation on Tuesday, August 18 at 2:00 pm in B101. Dean Schaffer will be doing a presentation. This year, part of convocation will focus on the COT in Bozeman. MSU - Great Falls is GREEN!
Turning Off Computers Really Does Save Money
Earlier this year, IT installed a program on the classroom computers that turns them off after 30 minutes. Based on report from January 1 - July 31, a total of $8,304.72 saved by having the classroom computers turn off after 30 minutes. The energy saved by powering down these 275 computers is equivalent to: 1) Removing 38.3 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere, 2) Planting 8.7 acres of forest, 3) Conserving 89.1 barrels of oil, and 4) Taking 7 cars off the road.
Wind Turbine Blade: a Visual for Upcoming Alternative Energy Programs
Invenergy, which runs the wind farm between Judith Gap and Harlowton donated two wind turbine blades to MSU-Great Falls College of Technology's Wind Energy program. The blades are 122 feet long and weigh 6.5 tons. This generous donation will enhance the learning experience of our wind technician students. MSU-Great Falls College of Technology, MSU Billings College of Technology, MSU-Northern, and UM Montana Tech College of Technology were authorized by the Montana Board of Regents to offer a Energy Technology Certificate of Applied Science program. The program was submitted as a collaborative project charged with creating and implementing shared energy programming. During the coming year, the campuses will fine tune the Certificate program (two semesters) and develop an Associate of Applied Science program (4-5 semesters) and submit the plan to the Board of Regents for permanent approval sometime by May 2010.

Great Falls Women in Construction Donate to Carpentry Program Submitted by Tom Figarelle
MSU - Great Falls is proud to announce this generous contribution of $1,500 to the Carpentry Program. The contribution was provided to support the various needs of students in this program, to include the purchase of consumable materials and equipment.
Great Falls Women in Construction is part of a national organization whose objectives are to advance the causes of all women in construction whose careers range from business ownership to the skilled trades. With almost 900,000 women working in construction today, the organization takes a key leadership role in the advancement of skilled trades education. Their contribution to the MSU - Great Falls Carpentry Program furthers this mission by supporting the learning needs of area students. Since their establishment as a chapter, the Great Falls Women in Construction have donated over $20,000 to students pursuing a degree in construction Trades. We hope this donation is the beginning of a strong partnership between their organization and MSU - Great Falls. |
Generational Perceptions of Time
Submitted by Linda McNeill
One of the most misunderstood differences in the workplace is about how different generations perceive time and the value of time. We are all shaped by our life experiences, and time is used very differently now than it was even 25 years ago. You are invited to attend at no charge. Sponsored by the Extended Learning Division. Room G107, Thursday, August 20 at noon.
The increased use of technology and digital communication means that the accessibility of information and the options for communication are vastly different than in the past. These differences in experience and perception lead to conflict, criticism, and misunderstanding in the workplace. Understanding how different generations view time can lead to a much more harmonious and efficient working environment. |
