229 Student Eligible for Phi Theta Kappa Induction
Submitted by Melanie Houge
In late April, letters went out to 229 Phi Theta Kappa eligible students - about 50 more than last year. Current members of Phi Theta Kappa along with the PTK ad visor and Interim Dean Joe Schaffer were proud to offer membership to this many students. Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society for two-year colleges that recognizes excellent scholarship. Students have to maintain a 3.5 GPA and be enrolled in a qualified degree-seeking program in a two-year college, which includes Associate of Science, Associate of Arts, and Associate of Applied Science degrees. MSU-Great Falls Phi Theta Kappa organization is looking to increase its membership as it prepares for a new school year and many exciting changes to their local membership.

This year, the Phi Theta Kappa President at MSU-Great Falls, Craig Rardon, in collaboration with advisor Courtney Johnsrud, plan on adding a variety of activities to the membership meetings. They also look forward to working more closely with the community, participating in an array of volunteer projects. In addition to volunteer work, they also strive to make membership meetings more exciting, adding games, door prizes, and other activities to those who attend. Since past membership and meeting attendance has been low, they are looking for ways to make membership more appealing.A Phi Theta Kappa membership comes with a range of benefits including a Golden Key Membership Pin, membership certificate and identification card, notion of membership on student diplomas and transcripts as well as the privilege of wearing regalia at graduation, distinguishing students as Phi Theta Kappa members.

This year's PTK Induction Ceremony will be held on Friday, April 24th at 6:30 PM. The location is currently TBA. So far, Phi Theta Kappa will be inducting about 35 students into the organization at the upcoming ceremony.

Prepare High School Students for Summer Jobs
MSU - Great Falls is offering a special course for high school students who will be looking for a summer job.  A three-week series emphasizing soft work skills and work ethics for high school students seeking summer work will be offered at MSU-Great Falls beginning April 14.

"We have been told by businesses and employers that young adults lack the basic work skills to hold down a job," said Linda McNeill, MSU-Great Falls Customized Business Director. "Cooperation between the college, the extension service, local businesses, Job Service and the Great Falls School District led to the development of this opportunity for high school students."

The classes will be taught by staff from the Great Falls Job Service Workforce Center, MSU Extension Cascade County, and human resources departments of local businesses. The first four classes will focus on teamwork, human relationships and problem solving. The fifth class will include tips for telephone etiquette, making change for customers, and completing a job application. A Summer Job Fair on April 30 will complete the series of classes. The Fair will give students, who complete the course successfully, the opportunity to interview with Great Falls employers hiring for the summer.

Registration forms are available from counselors at CM Russell High School, Great Falls High School, Central Catholic High School, Paris Gibson Education Center, or from the Outreach Department at MSU - Great Falls. Registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. The class is limited to 25 students.  Classes will be Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30 to 7:30 pm at MSU-Great Falls, 2100 16th Avenue South.  The cost is $15 to be paid at the time of registration.
