PTA Site Visit and Review - a Success! Submitted by Andrea Johnson, MSPT, PTA Program Director
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone on campus for supporting the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program before and during our recent on-site accreditation visit. Three representatives formed a "team" from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and arrived in Great Falls on Saturday, January 24. They began reviewing materials provided to them at that time. I met with the "team" on Sunday evening and the questions began there and continued for the next two and a half days.
The "team" met with Charlene Marshall, BS, PTA, regarding her role as PTA faculty and as the coordinator of the clinical education portion of the PTA Program. They toured the facility and interacted with many individuals, but those in the Library, Learning Center, Distance Learning, Student Central, and Bookstore the most. Thanks to all of you for representing your area and helping the "team" understand how we work together!
The "team" met with individuals from admissions and student services, PTA clinical instructors (physical therapists or physical therapist assistants), Jodi Howard (Health Science Administrative Associate), general education faculty representing PTA prerequisite courses (including Robin Williams, Jill Keil, Kim Schrenk, Courtney Johnsrud, Cheri Calsetta, Cherie Mckeever, Dennis Veleber, and Larry Vaccaro), current PTA students, college administrative officials (Joe Schaffer, Interim Dean/CEO, Heidi Pasek, Associate Dean/CAO, Greg Paulauskis, Interim Director of the Division of Health Sciences, and Judy Hay, Assistant Dean of Student Services), PTA advisory board members, employers of recent PTA graduates, and recent program graduates. Overall, the "team" was very impressed by our College. The oral report presented to the PTA faculty and administrative officials was positive and accurate reflecting the PTA Program and the College well.
The "team" will now submit their reports to the CAPTE and we should expect to receive a report back in approximately one month. This report will ask for clarification and further proof of compliance with CAPTE criteria. The PTA faculty will have one month to prepare these materials and submit them back to CAPTE. Toward the end of April, CAPTE will officially meet and review all the materials regarding the PTA Program. They will make a decision regarding accreditation at that time and request further materials as necessary. This is expected as the Program has recently been re-established. Overall, the Self-Study process and the on-site review were a positive experience. It has already proven itself to be beneficial and will only improve the PTA Program in the future.
Again, I wish to extend a sincere "thank you" to everyone who helped to make the Self-Study and On-site Review successful! |

| Campus Directories
The latest up-to-date employee contact information is now available on the MSUGF website under 'Campus Directories.' If you would like to have this information at your fingertips, my suggestion is to create a new folder on your desktop with a link to URL: http://www.msugf.edu/directory/directory.asp
There are three options open to you as you use the 'Search Directory' function. You may search by department and see a list of all employees within that department or you may search by last name or first name. Also under 'Campus Directories' on the home page, you will find options for printing a directory by name (sorted by last name) or by department (sorted by department / last name).
Our Webmaster, Rhonda Kueffler, makes updates to the directory database frequently, so you should find the web directory a great source for contact information for employees. Please let Rhonda know as corrections or updates are needed.

| February is Black History Month
Black History month began as 'Negro History Week' in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, an African American historian and scholar. In 1976, it became a month-ling celebration. February was chosen because it coincides with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. Watch for happenings on campus and in the community. | |
