Tour group bodyworldBody Worlds: The Original Exhibition of Real Human Bodies
submitted by Tammy FilliatorBody World Exhibit
Tammy Filliater and Roger Peffer took 11 Anatomy & Physiology and Biology students to Salt Lake City to view a phenomenal Anatomy exhibit- "Bodyworlds."  This internationally acclaimed exhibit displays plastinated cadavers artfully displayed in different poses, extracted organ systems, and extensive information about the human body and diseases.  This exhibit attracts health professionals, artists, students and the general public to view the wonders of the human body. Students also enjoyed touring Salt Lake City, shopping, and some wonderful cuisine.
Legislature Action
Dean Schaffer will present a 15-minute informational talk on MSU-Great Falls to the Joint Appropriations Subcommittee on Education in Helena along with the other CEO's of the MSU campuses. The MSUGF presentation will include candid video comments from students Carol Berg, Alyssa Holland, Ryan Warner, and Marty Balus. Superintendent of Great Falls Public Schools, Cheryl Crawley, and GFDA President, Brett Doney, are also featured.

The first of six Community Legislative Forums was held on January 15. Five of our legislators joined us from the METNET site in the Old Livestock Building near the Capitol via interactive television. The Great Falls audience gathered in Room B133 to discuss the topics of the day. The legislators are concerned about the lack of funds in the budget. They explained a number of issues that are in front of their various committees at this early point in the session. They pointed out that 40 of the 100 current legislators in the House, 40 are brand new. We appreciate the attendance of Sue Dickinson, Mitch Tropilla, Rick Ripley, Bob Mehlhoff, and Trudi Schmidt. Great Falls High School History teacher, Gary Wallace, brought six of his students to this interesting session. We hope they (and you) will join us for the next Forum at 7 am - same location - on Thursday, January 29.
Figarelle Attends Inauguration
Tom Figarelle, Development Officer, took advantage of a last-minute opportunity to receive tickets to the Inauguration, found a flight out of Billings, arranged lodging with some old roommates and took off for D.C. on Saturday, January 17. KGPR's Tom Halvorson convinced him to take a tape recorder and provide Great Falls with some 'on the ground' reporting that will play sometime this week.
Display Cabinets: Windows to Our Programs!
Please contact College Relations to reserve one or more display cabinets to showcase your program, event, club, or special project. Some ideas for display include student work, posters, or equipment that illustrates your program area. You may capture the interest of students who have not committed to a specific program. Provide them the opportunity for a wonderful, rewarding career in your area of expertise!
Wind Turbine Update
After the Board of Regents approved the MSU-Great Falls plan to expend funds for a wind turbine, the issue was presented to the Great Falls Planning Board / Zoning Commission. The group approved the project and recommended it be erected at the original site designated for the turbine. The City Commission will set a public hearing date which will most likely be in early February. The Commission's vote following the hearing will be the final say in this project.
Booth at MAGIE Yields Positive Results
For the first time, the College had a presence at the Montana Agriculture and Industrial Exhibition (MAGIE). The MAGIE is a regional farm and ranch trade show featuring exhibitors from all over the Pacific Northwest, Montana, the Dakotas, and Canada. The show features major manufacturers and regional businesses. From combines to tools and over 200 exhibitors, you'll find what you're looking for at MAGIE.  We took advantage of an opportunity for a nonprofit booth space in the entry area to the Four Seasons. Kyle Gillespie and Brian Wergin manned the booth on Thursday and made some great contacts with the state FFA Foundation Executive Director and representatives from a number of Great Falls' businesses. They came away with a plan for the College to host a welding competition for students attending the FFA state competition.
Staff and Faculty Serve as BPA Conference Judges
Rhonda Kueffler, Webmaster; Tim Paul, Program Director of Web Design/Graphic Design; Jeff Brown, Business and Technology Division Head; and Jeffrey Paul, Adjunct Instructor, volunteered their time on January 19 to serve as judges for high school student competition in website design.

Get Rid of Your Old Magazines
Do you have a pile of old magazines at your house that you haven't taken to recycle yet? If so, bring them to College Relations. Rhonda Kueffler needs old magazines for her students to cut up for class projects. Put those old magazines to good use!
