Wind Turbine Approved
The Montana Board of Regents, at their January 7th meeting, granted approval for the installation of a 50KW Wind Turbine on the MSU-Great Falls campus. The following is an excerpt from a letter sent to the Regents in support of this project by Mark Mathison, Associated Students President. "As president of the Associated Students of MSU-GF COT, I represent my fellow students in asking the Board of Regents for approval to construct a wind turbine on the MSU - Great Falls Campus. We believe that, as a institution of higher learning, we need to set an example in our community for utilizing sustainable energy and working to be a front runner in meeting the Governor's 20x10 Initiative. We are all concerned about saving our environment and being energy conscious. We believe that the wind turbine, as proposed, will help our campus become "greener." We need to be part of the solution, not a continuation of the problem." The turbine will be considerably larger than the ones installed recently at regional schools such as Cascade and CM Russell. It will be comparable to the turbine currently in existence at the Cascade County Maintenance Shop west of Great Falls and will be a visible component of the campus. It is anticipated it will be located south / southwest of the existing facility. The Regent's approval is a first step leading to the actual commissioning of the turbine, but it is a step in the right direction. The entire permitting, bidding, acquisition and installation process will take approximately nine months. |

College in a Day
The 2009 College in a Day brought approximately 200 high school students to campus. Because of road closures north of Great Falls, many of our rural schools and those on the hi-line were unable to attend. The purpose of College in a Day is to expose high school students and their teachers and counselors to the college's programs, faculty, services, and classrooms. Student response was overwhelmingly positive with many students asking for additional information and contact from our recruitment staff. |
| New Students Attend Orientation
Students who will be new to the College this spring semester toured campus, attended orientation sessions, and met faculty in their area of study. The event was well-organized and interesting due to the event planning efforts of Dana Freshly and her volunteers. |
