| News from MSU - Great Falls
Your Community College! |
November 17, 2008 |
Greetings!
Thanksgiving is a holiday for all MSUGF and Northern students on the Great Falls campus. Campus will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 27 / 28. There is so much for each of us to be thankful for - our enthusiastic, willing and curious students; talented, compassionate and generous co-workers; supportive community members; our families and friends. We wish you all a wonderful holiday. The next Campus News will be published on December 1.
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~ John F. Kennedy |

Submitted By Natalie Nefzger
Today, Monday, November 17th there will be 45 Gear Up 7th and 9th graders from 10am to 11:30am in Heritage Hall. Tomorrow, we have 45 Gear Up 8th and 10th graders in Heritage Hall from 10am to 11:30am. We also have 30 Shelby high school seniors tomorrow afternoon from 12:30pm to 2:00pm. You may notice large tour groups and some extra energy so please accept my thanks, in advance, for your patience and warm welcome for these groups. They will also be doing a scavenger hunt so you may see them running around excitedly gather clues. If you have questions, let me know. Also, if you want to join the fun let me know. Don't be shy! |
| Mission Statement to be Revisited
The College Planning, Budget and Analysis Committee (CPBAC) has initiated a strategic planning process which will include reconsideration of the College's mission, vision and value statements. Members of CPBAC and campus volunteers will begin meeting shortly. Feedback from employees and student government on a recent survey will be considered in the initial discussions of this ad-hoc commmittee. The recommendations of this group will be brought to CPBAC and the college community. |

Area high school counselors were on campus on Wednesday, November 12th for an update sponsored by the Montana Postsecondary Educational Opportunities Council (MPSEOC). Counselors from all over Montana were linked through the METNET interactive television system. In addition to Great Falls, they gathered in Kalispell, Missoula, Havre, Bozeman, Billings, Miles City, and Glasgow. Each college member of MPSEOC had the opportunity to give an update from their campus. Natalie Nefzger, MSUGF Recruiter, shared information about our new programs and services and encouraged local counselors to share the information with their high school students. MSU - Great Falls is a great value! |
Graphic Design Poster Winner
MSU - Great Falls graphic design students were invited to submit a poster design to promote the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art. The winning poster was designed by student, Brent Marrero. "This type of 'real life' project is a win-win for both the student and the client," says Rhonda Kueffler, MSUGF Webmaster and instructor of the CIT 217 Graphic Design class. "This allows the student to interact with a client, get the feel of what it's like to be a designer, and produce a piece that they can add to their portfolio."
The new Graphic Design program will officially begin fall semester 2009. However, two graphic design courses that can apply to the program and are also excellent electives for the Web Design program will be offered Spring semester; Typography and Digital Photography. Charles Fulcher, owner of Lodestone Advertising, will be teaching Typography. Digital Photography will be taught by Jeffrey Paul, who recently graduated in Graphic Design from St. Mary's University, Minnesota. Contact Program Director, Tim Paul, at 771-4409 for further information. |

Academics and Healthcare Roundtable Discussion
On November 12, a roundtable discussion was held on campus to explore the options for filling regional healthcare workforce needs. Development Officer, Tom Figarelle, organized the event in collaboration with three members of the College's Development Steering Committee, Sue Warren, Gerry Jennings and Jack King. Susan Cooper moderated the discussion. The college recognizes the ongoing interest of the medical community in the programs that provide workers for them. Support from Benefis Healthcare and the Great Falls Clinic in the form of faculty and program support as well as student scholarships has been instrumental for our College's success and is very much appreciated. |
