Pacific Steel's Investment in MSUGF
In August, Pacific Steel generously contributed $50,000 to MSU - Great Falls.  While this donation represented the College's largest, single private gift to date, it was far more than just a major contribution.  The gift symbolized the beginning of a new and unique project that would serve our many student-parents.

Thanks to this generous gift, MSU - Great Falls is proud to announce the development of a childcare center on campus that has the promise of making daycare more convenient and financially accessible for students.   Often the costs of childcare rival those of tuition and fees.  In some instances this can be such a large financial hurdle that one's academic and career goals are delayed or never fully explored.   The establishment of this center is aimed at easing this challenge.  While planning and development are in the early stages, MSU - Great Falls salutes Pacific Steel for their commitment to this project and their investment in the unique students who choose to pursue their higher education and career goals on our campus.

Congratulations to the following faculty members for their election to AS/CC:
Mark Plante - one year term representing adjunct faculty
Adam Wenz - three year term representing the Division of Arts and Sciences
Tom Oakberg - one year term representing the faculty at large.

These new members of AS/CC have demonstrated their support for MSU-Great Falls by taking on this large responsibility.  Please congratulate these new senate/committee members.
Latex Alternatives
It has come to College's attention that latex in balloons and other products on campus cause an allergic reaction for some people. For that reason, the College has found alternative products to use in our healthcare and dental labs. Please do not use latex balloons or other products on the MSU - Great Falls campus.
Investment Seminar Series
Bryan Brashear and Chuck McAdam will present a five-session Investment Seminar Series on October 23, 30, November 6, 13 and 20 from 7 to 9:30 pm in Room B101. Pat FootballSchoenen Honored
From the UM Western News http://www.umwestern.edu/news/
The University of Montana Western inducted four former student-athletes and the 1994 Bulldog wrestling team into the University of Athletic Hall of Fame. The Montana Western Athletic Hall of Fame honors individuals and teams who achieved excellence and distinguished themselves in Bulldog athletic programs. The 2008 inductees include Pat Schoenen of Great Falls, Mont. in football and the 1994 Bulldog wrestling team in wrestling. Pat Schoenen was a member of the 1994 and 1995 Bulldog football teams that went undefeated in Frontier Conference play and set numerous individual and team records in the process.

Schoenen earned first team all-conference and all-American honors as an offensive center. He received a bachelor of science in secondary education from Montana Western. He taught in Washington after graduation, but moved into the construction field. Schoenen is now the carpentry program director at the Montana State University - Great Falls College of Technology. He and his wife Melissa are the parents of daughter Grace, age two. Schoenen's favorite memories are the bus rides, long and short. "Those bus trips forged the camaraderie that made our team the championship team it was," Schoenen said.

The 1994 football team was the first team from Western Montana College (now Montana Western) to advance to the national playoffs. Not only did they advance to the national playoffs, but won a first round game. The Bulldogs downed Glenville State 48-38 in the opening round to advance to the NAIA, Division I semi-finals. The Bulldogs lost to Arkansas Pine Bluffs in an overtime thriller that is still in the record books. The game holds the distinction of being the highest scoring game in NAIA championship history. The Bulldogs lost 53-60
Wrestling
The 1994 Bulldog wrestling team captured the first national title in school history. Former wrestling coach T.J. Nelson said it best. "We had been close so many times before," Nelson said. "The title was not just a highlight of the season, but of the program. I actually thought there were other teams with more ability and talent than this team, but there has never been a team that was that dedicated and with more heart." Shawn Fossen won an individual national title. (Note:  Shawn is the husband of MSU - Great Falls Registrar, Dena Wagner-Fossen, and the father of Ava. He is a Surgical Technology graduate, and works for Benefis Healthcare) The Bulldogs tied Southern Oregon for the team title, the first tie in NAIA history. Nelson was named NAIA Coach of the Year.
